I visited on the first day of Fall 2015. About a 20 minute drive from Seneca Rocks, Seneca Caverns offers a nice detour from the waterfalls and scenic mountains and valleys that cover this entire part of the state of WV. There's a decent amount of parking at the gift shop and restaurant, which is just next door. Tours, in the slower season, run at the top of the hour and take about forty-five minutes to an hour. Be sure to call ahead - from somewhere, while you still have cell phone reception - to verify that day's schedule. I missed the tour by fifteen minutes, and waited forty-five minutes for the next one. The quaint gift shop and ample restaurant will help you pass the time. Speaking of losing cell phone reception, print out any road maps, trail maps, and directions you need before leaving home.

As for the tour itself: our guide was knowledge and friendly, and made corny jokes along the way during the tour to lighten the mood. The caverns are not 'touristy' with all sorts of colored lighting everywhere. There are approx. 250+ steps in the cavern, as well as a 1/4-mile (mostly uphill) hike back to the gift shop from the cavern exit. The interior of the cavern has numerous low ceilings, so wearing a hard-hat is required. Photography (including flash) is permitted. Take a light jacket or coat, depending on your sensitivity to 100% humidity and cooler...

The tour itself was fine considering it only cost $15 per person. The tour guide kept making jokes that only one person laughed at (who cares). When no one else laughed, he would make comments along the lines of "You guys are boring." Again, I genuinely didn't care if his jokes were funny or not. Came to look at the cavern, not listen to "Mikey" make jokes.

As we are walking out, my husband and I both say "thank you." After my husband says it, Mikey asked him if "He had a stick up his a**." This is not an exaggeration, he actually said that. I'm not sure if his ego is so fragile that he can't handle people not laughing at his jokes, or if we did something else to offend him. I have never heard a stranger (especially someone who is at their JOB), speak to someone else like that.

When we got back to the ticket area, we told the nice lady at the desk about it, and she immediately gave us a refund, and profusely apologized. She's not the one who should be apologizing, as she was actually very kind.

Anyways, Mikey, thanks for making our experience pretty horrible. My husband and I have had a terrible year, both of us having lost a parent, and we wanted to get out of town and treat ourselves; we didn't let it ruin our trip, but would never go to this...

Called the night before we got there to check their hours. Drove out of our way to get there. When we got there the gate was closed. No sign on the gate as to why. Turned around (as many cars did) to head back to the main road. When we got to the main road we attempted to call the phone number to see if something had changed. However due to no reception in the area we could not get a call out. Later in the evening when we got to an area where there was reception we called the number again. There was nothing on the recorded message stating they were closed. Only the hours of operation were listed. Drove back again the next day and the gate was still closed. The next evening I found their Facebook page and they mentioned they were closed due to Covid. Please update your recorded message to reflect the closure as well as notice on your gate. The only reason were were able to find out while your were closed was due to the internet. Not everyone has access to the internet. I understand things happen however in addition to your Facebook page your phone message should have mentioned the closure as well. We drove out of our way 2 different days. Such a...

A Great Cavern tour in West Virginia that is seasonal This site is located along WV 9 several miles down two lane roads. There is a fairly large parking lot around that is the center of a family style restaurant, a gift shop and a restroom building. We were lucky and got on one of the last tours for the season on Halloween. This is a 45 minute tour that runs on the hour. You buy your tickets at the gift shop. If you have to wait there are some things to do around the site. You are asked to put on a safety hat that is provided for you. The tour starts from behind the gift shop and leads directly down into the caverns. The tour was guided and showed many of the various parts of the cavern system. It is an absolutely fascinating cavern system that is well preserved. You have to walk from the entry behind the building to about a ¼ mile where you exit the system. There are low ceilings, wet stairs and tight spaces. This is only open at certain times of the year so please be sure to check before you visit. It is an excellent tour and I highly recommend it for anyone in the area interested in caverns.

Stopped here to escape the rain and was well worth it. There's a restaurant with a beautiful view and good good (wifi also). Great gift shop with cute jewelry and clothes and stuff for children. I enjoyed the tour, we caught the last one of the day and I'm pretty sure the guide was ready to go home because it felt extremely rushed and would turn the lights off before people were even done in some of the "rooms". However, if you havent done a cave tour this I'd a fun one and appropriate for kids of all ages. They create fun stories about the different rooms which was cute. It's cold, so bring a jacket for sure. If standing or walking is a task for you you may want to think twice as you're going down slick stairs and wet walkways with limited light and some areas you have to bend over to walk through as the tunnels are very low in height.

I am so frustrated with Seneca Caverns. My fiance and I drove over 3 hours to visit, only to find out upon arrival that they closed for the season on October 31st—and the website gave NO indication of this. We checked the website before leaving, and it clearly stated they were open and listed their hours. There was nothing about early closures or season-ending dates. The lack of updated information is beyond frustrating. To drive that far, only to be met with locked gates and no warning ahead of time, is completely unacceptable. They couldn’t even have a basic update on their website? Ridiculous waste of time.
