Canoe Creek State Park is definitely in my top 10 PA state parks to go visit. I started my visit by stopping in the park office first which had me encountering the amazing staff behind the counter. The lady was more than willing to help me get my maps and make recommendations about the park. To think I almost drove by and didn’t stop. I found there to be plenty of activities at the park. And let me tell you this park is one of nicer ones in the state. Looks well taken care of. You could go hiking, canoeing, rent boats, go fishing, birding, camp out at their cabins, hang out on the beach or take your kid to the playground. There is an activity for everybody here. The limestone trail was my favorite and had me traveling back in time as I walked up the valley to the limestone kilns and then to one of the limestone quarry’s which had some amazing fossils to checkout. If you’re in the area I highly recommend stopping here. Really looking forward to stopping back in the summer to explore the park at its full potential! Yet another great park by the state of...
Read moreA great place to take your dog(s), due to proximity this is the state park we visit the most, normally at least twice a week. A variety of trails, of variable difficulty, keeps things from getting boring. I can't give it the full five stars, no matter how much my dog Loki loves it, because at no time on any trail do I get that "alone in the wilderness" feeling I crave when I hike.
Park also has concessions and a swimming beach, which I never use, and boat rentals, which I have. Personally I'd rather kayak at Black Moshannon State Park, but the option is here.
Overall a great place to walk your dog and get some exercise. It's definitely worth a visit and the trails have something for all skill levels. Remember to leash your dog at the park (yes, even your well trained pooch) and to...

Camping is limited to eight modern cabins. There's a swimming beach on a nice lake, and there's changing rooms and concession stand with a patio. There's a ball field and volleyball, disk golf and geocaching. An educational center provides scheduled programs including bat watching. You can ride a small bike trail and hike 12 miles of trails. There's also a large swath of area for horseback riding, stocked fishing year round, and seasonal hunting. Winter activities include ice skating and cross country skiing, and hunting in season.
