Sophie & Madigan's Playground — Attraction in Frederick

April 12, 2022 - This Cinderella theme style playground has a certain charm, which all kids under 10 will enjoy! However I felt a “ lump in my throat” when I researched the back story! (Back story difficult to read/know)

Folks in the community joined together to fundraise the money to create this fun playground near Butterfly Ridge Elementary School in Frederick, Maryland. Sophie & Madigan’s Playground is free, and colorful, and fun for the younger kids.

I liked the innovative merry-go-round! Amazing in its construction, designed to move in a clockwise rotation by using your hands & arms to wind a metal bar with two or three other children working in unison. Cooperating to achieve a common goal, cleaver !

There’s a colorful orange pumpkin coach to climb in, and pretend you’re off to the castle for a party with the prince. . . or any imaginary story you wish to dream up?

There’s a castle with slides, draw bridge, climbing wall, and hunt for clues to search for images on the castle walls. Fun & games with an educational slant for kids of different ages! 😃👍🏼

Our almost 2 year old Grandson loved the swings, horse rides, slides, merry-go-round, etc. My wife commented on the clean ladies’ restroom, in a new building next to the playground. The playground rubber floor cover offered a comfortable composition! ( Excellent)

I’d rate this a 4.85 experience, with two suggestions for a perfect score:

1# Suggest shaded pavilion w/picnic tables

2# Add fun water sprinkler stations to cool off the kids in the hot summer

Back Story . . . Warning ! ( SAD )

Researching this story. . . turned horrible for any parent to hear! My wife and I can’t imagine losing two young daughters to a tragic death such as this house fire in Meyersville, back in 2013.

From the account I read. . . A family’s home caught fire in February. The fire spread quickly, the fire department responded with 75 fire fighters, from several counties. Two girls of four daughters were rescued, but two daughters Sophie age 6, and Madigan age 3, didn’t make it. “ The lump in my throat” hurts just to complete this sentence. . .

Amazing playground with Bathrooms!! Most creative and best designed one I have ever been too. Rubberized and bouncy floor throughout ion case kids fall, great varied themed structures for kids of all ages to play on and around. bathrooms too! We passed 2 or 3 other playgrounds while driving from the main road to this place. So glad I saw the reviews on this one. Site unseen, just from the 5 stars, we arrived, IMPRESSED! The playground is located within a larger park with nice sidewalks and plenty of parking and green grass space (great for flying a kite or playing flag football, soccer, Tball or just running around or even driving RC...

Very wonderful park to take children to. Very nice people here to chat with. Everyone was friendly, and all the kids seemed to be having a great time. There is a little shade to sit in, and a little can be found behind a few of the structures. There is lots of room to run and be loud. I wish I had brought a frisbee or ball to kick around so we could have kept busy for longer. There are plenty of swings and equipment to play on, and a large number of children can be accommodated. Even though there was a large number of kids playing, we really never had to wait to find equipment free or room to go down...
