We went here for Memorial Day weekend without any prior reservations. But luckily they were able to squeeze us in as tickets were available. It’s $8 per adult. But I highly recommend booking it in advance as it would have been sad to drive 1:30 hours from Austin and not to be allowed in due to unavailability.
There are multiple parking spots. Restrooms by the entrance was out of order but there’s another area where they’ve more restrooms which were available. There are some picnic tables and sitting area around that another restroom.
When we went, there were some small creeks with water running. We got to see 2-3 Water moccasin- non venomous snakes running around in that creek, our first time snake sighting in Texas!
There’s gazebo where main trail starts for enchanted rock. You can get trail map from ticket place over the entrance - might be helpful. From gazebo you can take the stairs down and that’s where mostly all the trails begin to go up there over the rock.
We took hiking trail close to 1 mile the summit one. But it was uphill and not that easy. So make sure to wear hiking shoes and appropriate attire for comfortable uphill and downhill climbs. There are some places which are steep on the main rock but you can walk around them and find less steeper area to climb up or down. Hiking sticks for balance might be helpful if you’re not experienced as I saw few people bringing them during their climb.
There were nice yellow tiny wildflowers all around - so pretty along with some different type of grass and cactus - as you climb up you’ll see them spread around more on the big rock so good flora and fauna if you’re into that. There is some water body upstairs as well due to the rain a couple days ago. But I guess it won’t be available always.
Take liquid IV/ electrolytes or water with you as you’ll definitely need it - especially during summers. Also - use plenty of sunscreen - as I forgot to do so and my shoulder and arms were sun-burned lol. It was also super windy that day up there and my hair became completely wreck and tangled so better tie them up. Don’t go un-prepared like me!!
And views were amazing on your way to up- on top and on your way down as well - you won’t be able to stop admiring and gawking. Also depends on when you go - during which season. It feels like smaller version of gardens of the gods from Colorado but kind of more greener on the scenery side instead of more red rock version.
Also you’ll loose cell signal 📶 around 20-25 minutes before on your way to Enchanted rock state park. So don’t lose people if you came with someone - it’ll be difficult to find them without any cell network as you won’t be able to call them. At least mine didn’t work and I use T-Mobile. So be careful. If you’re new to area and using google maps then better to download offline maps of this area and surrounding at least 20 miles radius so you know your way around the area in absence of signal.
Easily can spend minimum 2-3 hours or more. A day well spent. Will visit again with family and friends with better...
Read moreThis might be my favorite of all of the Texas State outdoor recreation areas/parks. The park is not huge, but there is plenty to keep you occupied. They have around 10 total miles of trails, the longest is the loop trail at 4.5 miles, which circles the entire park. My favorite trail was the Echo Canyon trail, which is full of boulders, and the only way you are going through is by doing a lot of climbing. I wish the trail was longer, I really loved it. It takes you through the saddle of Enchanted and Little Rock... Little Rock, isn't that little, by the way. It's the 2nd largest in the park. Most everyone climbs Enchanted Rock because there is a designated trail, and hardly anyone ever climbs Little Rock, because there is no designated trail. I found that the saddle between the two domes offers excellent access to climb Little Rock. I summitted both domes multiple times from different areas of the park to keep things interesting. For the hikers, if you begin the Loop Trail at the trailhead on the West side of the park, the first mile is moderately challenging, and it sort of levels off from there. I would avoid trying to access anything using the Frontside Trail, as it is very poorly marked and I ultimately ended up hitting a dead end and had to backtrack. I was trying to access the Turkey Pass Trail from the Summit Trail, but after hitting the dead end, as it was getting late, I decided to call it a day. The Walnut Springs trail takes you through the Walnut Springs campground, and if you access this trail from the South you will have a moderately challenging climb ahead of you just before it meets back up with the Loop trail. The Moss Lake trail is well defined for about 90% if you access from the North heading South, but the last 10% of the trail becomes a craps shoot, lol. It just ends, and to make things more confusing, the trail that you see about 20 feet south of where the trail just ends, that is the Moss Lake trail, according to the map, but the signage says it is Echo Canyon trail. Follow Echo Canyon trail from here, West to East (you will be starting it right at the junction of the Loop trail) you will come across Moss lake about 100 yards down. I did not get to do the Base Trail, The Turkey Pass Trail, or the Buzzards Roost Trails because I sprained...
