This theater is absolutely incredible! I have been a member for about five years. All the classes I have taken are soooo great! The directors are very friendly and take time with each and every student to ensure every child has the same opportunity to shine and succeed. Along with musical theater classes, dance classes, improv classes, classes that are just plays for kids who don't enjoy musicals as much, adult plays, workshops from very credited actors and actresses, AND camps; this theater also provides many great performance opportunities that travel to theater festivals, New York, Disney World, local attractions, Six Flags, and many other amazing places. The owner of this theater, Cathy, also takes time to view the classes she's helped build and create. I almost always see her engaging in my classes. All the employees really care about this place, some spend full days with little or no breaks in between. The entire atmosphere is very caring and supportive, I have never wanted to "take a break" from this wonderful place ever. This theater has always made me want more. Creativity wise, all shows have original choreography and really have good harmonies in the teen classes that I have taken. Other than teen classes I have taken some classes for younger kids as well when I was younger. The classes for younger children are definitely worth your time and money as well. The one thing that I could possibly complain about is that sometimes a child is assigned multiple roles, which means multiple costumes. The cost might be pretty expensive; the total all depends on the show they are doing. Another great thing this theater helps with is auditioning. To be more specific, they focus on how to slate your name, find a right audition monologue, and perfect your audition song choice. The shows also varies in genre, giving the people who take the class a new surprise every semester/ show. Overall, The Purple Box Theater is so much fun. It provides great theater knowledge and helps everyone feel like a true star. I would recommend this place to anyone who is willing to try and do their best! I hope this can convince you to join our little...
Read moreOn our first day of class I was not impressed. My child was told to sit and watch the other children who knew the routine. The other children did not know the routine so the teacher began reteaching it. Then a child no more than a few years older than my one child started telling them they were doing it wrong. There was no fewer than 6 new children in this class and there were no introductions. The new children were treated as if they were interrupting the ongoing progress. I was planning on not returning that day, but my child said she enjoyed herself. And wanted to continue. So here is what happened over the 4 months.
Communication: After the first day I was told parents are not welcome at the class. I was totally okay with that. However this made it difficult to keep up with what was going on. So I had to rely on the website and emails. These communications are extremely poorly constructed and seem condescending at times. I found it difficult to even figure out who and when to give my payment to.
Performances: Several times in the shows there were last minute changes. Removal of songs. Changes of leads. This is absurd. The scope of the rehearsal should match exactly what they are expected to perform. These last minute changes make the children unsure on the stage and lessens the quality. My child was told we were learning 5 or 6 songs and then they would cut half of them. After parts were assigned and practice wasted.
Costume: I purchased a dress for $70. The costume I received was not of quality or worth half that. The dress is not lined. There were a few sewing mistakes on my child's. The dress was itchy. We never received the bow. The dance boots on the website were not available in my...
Read moreThis theater offers so many great performing opportunities, as well as broadened my horizons by teaching me various forms of dance. The directors are fair and kind, and everyone gets a chance to be a star! I honestly could not have asked for a better theater experience than this one! I have been a part of this theater for over five years, and over that time I have grown as an actress, singer, and dancer. The students of The Purple Box, including myself, have been able to perform on an actual Broadway Stage in New York City, not once, but twice, with another planned for this summer. This was such a healthy environment for me to grow up in. There was never a sense of competition among the other actors and myself, and we are, and always have been, supportive of each other in every way. Not once did I hear a negative comment, either from the directors or the other performers. The directors provide constructive criticism that builds us up, and helps us become better performers. This theater has become a safe haven. I know that every time I walk in those doors, I am accepted for who I am, and am not judged for being silly. At The Purple Box, you are free to express yourself through performing, and we work hard to put on great shows that are incredible and entertaining.
This is such a great theater to be a part of, and I am incredibly grateful for the experiences and friendships it granted me. ...
