I'm editing to add that the same review I posted on the pool page, but this seems to get more traffic. The park itself is really nice, we love it but the pool is a whole different negative vibe, if certain people are working that is.
Original review: This has been on my mind for weeks now. We've only been 2x to this pool. The first time wasn't the same experience as the first. I felt like we were treated more respectfully and enjoyed our time more. It was just my kids and I, the only complaint I had that time, is the lifeguard who put my daughters life jacket on her, tightened it too tight so it cut into her crease and left a terrible rub burn that I had to treat with diaper cream a few days. Now, the second time has put a bad taste in my mouth, and we won't be coming back. I wouldn't mind if the employees in question are properly redirected. On our second visit, we came with my husband. We are a beautiful mixed family. My oldest, who's 9, decided he wanted to take the swim test again, the lifeguard who supervised this, he was young and disrespectful. He not once but repeatedly called my son BOY in an ugly tone. Now, brace yourself class. This is extremely disrespectful to call a male of any race, much less one with African American heritage. Every time he uttered BOY, I cringed. My husband heard him once as well and was honestly in shock, hoping he was mistaken. So, I feel as if he was being racist, there is absolutely NO excuse to call a little boy or male, BOY like that, repeatedly, yes he is a boy, but do yourself a favor, learn some words that are more socially acceptable to address people with since you are working in a position of "respect". If he didn't want to call him by name like the previous lifeguard at our first visit, he could've said buddy, bro, dude, I mean it was absolutely ridiculous. But also, not only that lifeguard but the superior way of the female lifeguard was not cool either. She talked down to us. I'll give you an example, which I really feel like she was being an idiot on this. I have a 2 yo who clings to me, barely even wants his daddy to hold him. My 7 yo was talking about the fact that every thing felt lighter in the water, an observation all kids make, anyways I was like sure is, even your baby brother is, do you want to see? And I'm standing there without intent of leaving, and I was handing the baby to him with my hands not leaving him. She doesn't directly address me. In fact, my husband thought she was talking to another lifeguard or something, but she said something like the baby can not leave an adult! My immediate thought, when it clicked what she said was, umm duh? We didn't enjoy our time as a result of these two. So, no, thank you, Camp Chowenwaw of the YMCA. You can keep your pool. We will find alternative means of cooling off this summer.
BTW if this doesn't bother you, it's cash...
Read moreI love the park it is a beautiful and peaceful place for the family to relax and just enjoy being around each other. The staff in the office is great. But on the other hand the pool staff, is very rude and some racist if I may say so. August 11 2018, me and my family had a party at this park for 4 boys birthday!!!! So we rented out the whole treehouse point which consists of 9 tree houses, we also had one cabin in big pines, one more cabin on the other side of the park we requested 35 wrist bands for the pool but, when it was time for my family to get into the pool ; First they asked the children for ID'S my children asked why did they need ID to get in the pool one of the life guard James replied they could be sex offenders!!! So my kids called us and we came to the pool with them!!! (Children ages rage 18/9 with a 8 month old baby) So my kids asked them why didn't they ask everyone for their ID. They were referring to the Caucasian people in the front of them!!! So when more adults got to the pool yes they asked for our ID also we got the same story cause sex offenders can't swim at a public pool !!! We all know that we are registered guests of this park and if we are sex offenders we wouldn't be allowed to even be here !!!! We are trying to figure out how are we supposed to swim with ID!!!
The kids had to take a swim test to even be allowed into the water if they refused to take a swim they had to wear a red necklace and a life jacket !! Now my 15 year old is 5f 9in my son refused to take a test he was told he had to wear a life jacket in 3 1/2 feet. He just said he will get out of the pool. Because first it isn't fair for they they are being treated and by the life guards. Long story short I will no longer go to...
Read moreThis was my first time here but my family has camped there many of times we rented Squirrel Run there was a lot of us 42 family members and with that number space is needed! These cabins have it. They even came with A/C and when I tell you they will freeze you out 😂 the accommodations and whole experience was amazing! The shower's we're great and they even had a handicap accessible shower bathroom all by itself between the men's and women's restroom. I would recommend this place to anyone! They even have a pool with lifeguards! All staff are friendly and when the lifeguard's seen 15 kid's coming at one time 😂 they were amazing too we had a blast! Each child under 15 is required to do a swimming test and given a color based on their level of swimming skills. I appreciated this the kiddos not so much but this level of safety made me very comfortable if I were to send the kid's (age appropriate) by their self. Top notch beautiful scenery and I haven't even spoken about the hiking trails which were nice too! Just everything about it was fun, exciting! Also, if you've forgotten something there are stores near by as well ❤️ Camping and Convenience 😊 Thanks Chowenwaw for a wonderful family camping reunion Nugent...
