My father is a retired professor, but he still publishes scholarly works, writing on a c. 1994 MS-DOS computer. The other day, he called to tell me that the floppy drive would not save a file. The project he was working on was a book manuscript that he was finally ready to send to the publisher. I'm pretty good with computers, and I'm certain I could have fixed the problem, but I live in another state. So, I started calling computer repair shops in Gainesville. First, I tried the Geek Squad, thinking they would be the easiest and fastest, but the rep said that their "agents" are not allowed to work on hardware problems in a home. Then I called PC Techman, but the rep said he wasn't interested in the job, and he wouldn't recommend anyone. Then I called Impact Computers, and the fellow who answered the phone was nice and sounded very competent, but he is a one-person shop and doesn't do house calls. However, he recommended Dog Bytes, so finally I called them. The technician, Jeff Kirby, took my call. I explained the situation to him in detail, saying that it was probably a simple repair, but that it needed a great deal of care and maybe some patience. Jeff said he had little experience with DOS computers, but after we talked a while, I was convinced that he understood the problem and that had the skills to handle the job. The next day, he arrived at my father's house on-time, and then called me periodically to give a status report. After one small difficulty ... ta-da, the problem was fixed. What a relief for both Dad and me, and Dad was please enough to give a tip. The bottom line is that we were very pleased with the service, and therefore, I am happy to give Dog Bytes Computers the...
Read moreAbsolute THIEVES! After going there for several years to get my family's computers fixed, and always getting raked over the coals on price, I finally had the last straw happen when they out and out stole from me! I brought my almost new computer in after it stopped working one day to find out what was wrong with it. I came back the next day at the designated time and waited for over 45 minutes for somoene to help me. When they finally did speak to me they informed my the motherboard on my brand new computer had gone out. When asking why a perfectly new motherboard would stop working, they informed me it happens sometimes and it was a manufacturer error.
Feeling something wasn't quite right I brought the computer home and opened it up to check it out. And guess what? They had STOLEN my graphics card! In place of my brand new RED graphics card was a flimsy green one! I immediately got on the phone with them and wanted to know where my card was. After lots of phone tag, and them trying to make up excuses, I was told they probably "lost" it somehow! I demanded a new card, and a few days later (And lots more phone tag) I finally got one that was compatible (But not as good) as the one the had taken from me.
Oh, and lo and behold I took the computer to another expert, he replaced the card and the computer was fine! Miraculously my motherboard WASNT fried! Either I'm writing this review from a computer with a broken motherboard or these people don't know what they're doing.
I'll never go back here again, and I suggest no one else does either. They'll overcharge you, and even when they fix your computers chances are you'll be coming in a few weeks later with more issues that just seem...

After paying $136.10, three weeks later my laptop wouldn't power on again. Took back was told it might be the dc jack again or the mother board.Manager offered to give me a $125.00 credit towards a laptop if bought at his store, but manager would take my laptop.I told him that "I wanted to keep my laptop". Got a call shortly after and was told it was the mother board and that the mangers offer still stood, but once again said that "I wanted to keep my laptop and I would be by the next day to pick up." After arriving at store, the manager gave me a box with my laptop in pieces (completely apart in many pieces). The manager stated that "the laptop was no good." I then told the manger that "I wanted my laptop put back together." He then again stated that "my laptop was no good." I again told the manager that "I wanted my laptop put back together." He then told me is was "a waste of their time to put it back together." I once again told him that "I wanted my laptop put back together" and then he told me that "I would have to give him another $45.00" and he would put my laptop together. I then told him that "I wasn't going to pay him $45.00." I then told him that "I would take him to small claims court." The manager then told me to "leave my laptop (box) and he would put it back together put it would take awhile." I told the manager that "I couldn't trust leaving my laptop." As I was leaving I told the manager again that "I would see him in small claims court" and the manager said "see ya in court" This is no way to...
