Well I came out to see the 50th annual gatornationals. Seems like a good idea to come see anyting that is the 50th annual. I did bring out some real nice hot rods in the display area that were from the era of 50 years ago. It's quite a rarity to see these things and know that they even still exist, as they are all museum pieces. Now the race itself brought in all the big names from all over the country in all the professional categories and in the amateur categories as well. The qualifying was excellent and many track records, and best of all times we're set. Stands are easy to get in and out of to get back to food and drink and for many that meant lot of beer. The parking is real interesting. They must have a hundred acres of parking, and they spread it out, I mean they really spread it out. I know that I had to walk over a half a mile to get from my car back up to where the entrance to the track was. I was at the back of the back of the back. They Park these cars far apart and there's plenty of room to go drifting in between the lines of parked cars. Everybody doesn't seem to mine they just kind of start walking, and there are some little shuttles but they're few and far between so you just walk on in. I was in the top Eliminator Club so that meant they gave us a lunch and breakfast and lunch and it was all very nice simple cafeteria type food but done well and it was a help yourself so everybody got enough. All in all it's a nice Raceway I was happy with the people, I got to see the people I wanted to see, and I got to see some real fast go get um racing. Come early Park close and then you can get back and forth to your car easily if...
Read moreGreat day at the races. The weather cooperated nicely and I have to compliment the track staff in scheduling and crowd management. The staging between competition groups was great and the show stayed on schedule. The PA system and the announcing was very good. If you attended drag races you're probably aware that keeping up with drivers, teams, and qualifying times can be difficult. Gainesville did a nice job of announcing the comp groups and the PA system was loud enough that you could actually hear and understand while in the grandstands. Parking was adequate on my visit and the traffic in and out was very manageable. I'm sure that traffic management issue will depend on day you attend and the time of day you're trying to arrive. But my take on my visit was parking was easy and there was reasonable shuttle service should you chose to ride instead of walk to the entry gates. Gainesville Speedway does an outstanding job of Hosting the...
Read moreWhat an Experience. The races were exciting. Standing at the end of pit road, making sure people got out of the way when the cars came off the track and were heading back to their pits. It was my 7th year doing it. The food and drinks are pricey ( $9 for a slice of pizza, $18 for a burger, $22 for a cup of Lemonade but Free refills from what I heard, $18 for a can of beer) but the atmosphere was exciting. Saturday was a rain out and some cars didn't make it to the elimination round, semi finals, or finals for Sunday. The drivers were very nice and friendly to me and the other guy working with me. We were offered drinks to help keep us hydrated. Definitely a FUN time, until the rain comes. They were giving out this NHRA coin to Veterans but had run out so quickly. I wonder how many people got them that...
