The Matthews Living History Farm Museum is a great place to visit for children and adults alike! It helps one understand what life was like on a farm in Grayson County in the period 1880 to 1910. There are workshops as would be needed on a farm like this for working wood and for blacksmithing. The animals are one of the best reasons for visiting: these are carefully selected from breeds representative of what would have been raised in the historic period represented. There are interesting ducks and geese and chickens, sheep, and two well-fed pigs. There are also two huge oxen, one of which, named Gilbert, was friendly and came to the fence to be petted, he is of a Swiss breed of cow, and bred for work on a farm. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The setting, in the beautiful Matthews State forest, is beautiful, and there is a trailhead very near the farm that gives hiking opportunities.

This is an awesome place to visit! Learned a lot of the history of the area. Also learned about endangered domesticated live stock and how the farm has helped bring back some animals that were near extinction. Highly suggest stopping by. Entirely run by volunteers.

Worth going for sure! Relaxed atmosphere and casual offerings for something to eat or drink. Nicely done reenactments of US Military from the past. Nice people to meet and a few vendors displaying their art and crafts. Go, a couple of hours is all you need.

Had a wonderful time! Here out of town and was just looking for something to do. We pretty much just showed up and didn't set a time for the tour and the nice gentleman stopped his work to give us a tour. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, mentioned to us a lot of people turn around because they don't see a car but told us if the gate is open visitors...

This place is a great family place. The staff are working hard to bring up more activities. Great place for school field trips to see how life was way back when, with live animals (seasonally). The house and barns and fields are photogenic. This place has regular events through the season, they offer it as a wedding venue, and hosting...
