The Matthews Living History Farm Museum is a great place to visit for children and adults alike! It helps one understand what life was like on a farm in Grayson County in the period 1880 to 1910. There are workshops as would be needed on a farm like this for working wood and for blacksmithing. The animals are one of the best reasons for visiting: these are carefully selected from breeds representative of what would have been raised in the historic period represented. There are interesting ducks and geese and chickens, sheep, and two well-fed pigs. There are also two huge oxen, one of which, named Gilbert, was friendly and came to the fence to be petted, he is of a Swiss breed of cow, and bred for work on a farm. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The setting, in the beautiful Matthews State forest, is beautiful, and there is a trailhead very near the farm that gives hiking...
