I need to preface this review with a note: this waterfall is tucked away within the Galena Territories, which is private to property owners and their guests, so hopefully you have the opportunity to see it by staying in a nearby property.
I visited with my family in late March, mid-morning during a fairly clear sky. There was heavy water flow due to recent rains.
These falls are very accessible to all ages and abilities. Wear hiking shoes or something you don't mind getting dirty as it can get a little squishy as you get close to the falls. There's also large rock steps that you can optionally walk on, which require a little more grip when wet.
I was impressed with the close proximity the viewing area is to the falling water. At some angles you can see the water mist over your head. The dual falls are quite deserving of their name as the rushing water makes a thundering sound as it drops from the rocky edge above.
I hope you can enjoy this site and catch it...
Read moreThunder Bay Falls is a must see on your way into or out of Galena! It’s only about a 10 min drive out of the way for a majestic view of the waterfall.
Depending on how much rain there’s been will determine how full the waterfall is- the 1st time I came here, there was a trickle of water. This time (a full year later) was a full fledged roaring waterfall!
This is a quick stop- it’s just the waterfall!
There’s a gravel parking lot (usually the other cars are a dead giveaway). There are several viewing areas with selfie stations for you to prop up your phone! The wildflowers are beauty here too.
If you brought a fishing pole, go for it!
There are signs (and reviews) that clearly state you have to be a member or a guest of something in order to be here… we’ve never seen anyone enforcing the rules here. It’s too much of a treasure to keep...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful & relaxing, a must see. I fish at this spillway and locally they call it " like fishing in a barrel". The falls spill into a rocky canyon full of fish. The area is designed with walkways so you can get close for pictures or fishing. Keep in mind you'll technically need a guest pass from the Territories Clubhouse to Park there and definitely to fish. Early mornings present the most unbelievable picture of a rising sun behind the mist of the spillway...its like a dream. The pictures I added show the falls after a couple days of heavy rain. The water roars over the falls with such loud and impressive power. My family stays at my parents home in the territories, and this is arguably the most worthwhile sight to see in Galena, like a...
