So this used to be the best kept secret on the Island. I have been coming down here for years. Been awhile since I have made my way there until this weekend. We took our boys for an impromptu beach day. It was lovely. A little more crowded now than it used to be. However, it was a Saturday and summer just kicked off. The Island is starting to buzz right now! I would suggest a four wheel drive vehicle though. The sand is very soft. The beach was clean and we lucked out and had very nice water clarity (Galveston waters tend to be a bit murky and gritty coming in from the Gulf). There are signs posted now that you can no longer swim or wade fish in these waters due to the currents. They do have a beach patrol that rolls through to let you know. But I have small children so we were happy to play in the shallow surf just off the beach, no need to go far out. Still much less crowded than the East Beach areas and you don't have to pay or need a permit to drive onto the beach. West Beach is where it is at.

Probably my favorite beach if you enjoy fishing, 4WD vehicles, off-roading and nature then this is your place! The dunes are a DO NOT TOUCH ZONE and everyone should respect them very much so, but you can have some fun on this beach still by watching the nature in them. The water is perfect for fishing and on any weekday I find myself loving this place with space for everyone to space out. Do remember though, YOU NEED 4WD TO GET HERE (or at least someone to tow you once you get yourself stuck). Finally I must say, DO NOT SWIM ON THIS BEACH. It isn’t meant for swimming, will never be meant for swimming and is very dangerous. Nature meant for this to be a spot to fish for sure and nothing else. If you want to swim with your family then please head down to the farther west beaches that are much safer and won’t put anybody in danger.

Cool place to hang out and explore. I just wish everyone would respect it more and take their trash out with them. Not many places still allow driving on the beach, we should recognize that and not make a reason to shut it down.

Went to this area to do some fishing with brother and our boys. Everything's find until one of their police officer shows up. He came up to us and stated you can't be in the water, I said we're not in the water. There was a small indenture in the ground where we were parked with about 4 inches of water in it and he made the statement you had to cross that water to get to the other side so you were in the water. That rubbed me the wrong and the reason why, there were two guys whom were white males waist deep in the water and nothing was said to them and several other people that were there being the only black people at that time, as a retired police officer found this officer attitude very offensive and if this is the way your officer treat people then me myself and my family will never return to this area. Don't want any trouble , just wanted to fish so we all left, Saint Luis pass thanks...
