I recently visited Plant Delights Nursery and the Jupiter Level Botanic Garden on a very hot humid day during one of its open gardens weekend. Hundreds of people were visiting. The number of people visiting stunned me considering the heat and humidity. Some people shopping for plants but not a lot. Most were visiting the gardens.
Lots of parking. But only four handicapped parking that I found. Gravel parking lot. One way access so you need to pay attention to the signage to find your way out. Not hard; just follow the signs.
Over 28 plus acres of plants to enjoy. I only visited one of the shade plants sections because of the hot humid weather and my bad back acting up. (I was primarily there to purchase some plants.) When I walked into the shade section, it was instantly 20 degrees cooler...or at least felt like it. Hardly any sunlight was making it through the canopy. Incredible numbers of different plant varieties. Many impressive old plants showing you how large some of the plants can grow. Most plants have plant tags for identification. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Definitely need to come back in the spring and/or fall. Unfortunately, I was just not up to spending several hours with my back and hot humid weather to enjoy the botanic garden.
This place definitely needs to be open year round. I understand the gardens have been donated/sold to the JC Raulston Arboretum and they are raising money so it can be maintained and open year round. Definitely worth your time if you are a plant lover. Kids are discouraged to avoid...

I am a huge tree fan and they have some wonderful mature specimens that clearly do well in NC. For instance, they have some of the most incredible Dawn Redwoods on site! They simply blew my mind. Especially at how healthy, happy, and large they are yet only being recently (20 & 30-ish years ago) planted. There are so many other magical mature specimens that I could go on and on...
