This is a beautiful, authentic, living history Festival. It is authentic to the 1812 period. There are many Indians, British soldiers and American troops all appropriately dressed. Vendors have a wide variety of food, including beans and cornbread, steak sandwiches, pork chops, chicken and noodles, fried meat and fruit pies. There are vendors that sell period-appropriate clothing, wares, games and wooden toys. The re-enactors are always willing to demonstrate and explain what they are doing. There are blacksmiths, musicians, artists, and of course, the soldiers. The clothing is fascinating. It's fun to see the difference in what people wear. A lot of the public that just comes for the day dresses up also. There are two battle reenactments each day and a flag-raising every morning. Softshell Turtle is an Indian storyteller. He's definitely one thing you want to see. 1812 is definitely worth the trip. There is something for everyone.

A must see event for northern Indiana. It gets better every year. A very large reenactment of a little known part of American history. It's worth it just to interact with the vendors and craftsman. The food is worth the trip. Well run event that has a ton of work put into it by its extensive group of volunteers. You gotta see this at least once if you live in Indiana.

I would recommend this as a day trip to anyone or a family that is interested in the history of our country and interested in Indianas history. My wife and I had a great time and plan to go back next year. We are also looking into ways to join in seeing that we are both into primitive camping. There is something there for everyone!!!!

Every October my family looks forward to 1812! If you park at the middle school near the Social Security office in Marion, IN you can ride the city bus for free! Trips every 15mins! Discount tickets at Needler's grocery! We spend all day of a Saturday, it's a 3-4 day weekend event! So many shopping and food vendors! Almost 200!! The food is the best. I'd go for the food alone! While you're eating watch the reenactments of battles from 1812! If you don't know you're history, you'll learn! Absolutely perfect for the kids, all ages really! Fun events, crafts, and exhibits! The smells...goodness gracious! But be warned, it's rain, snow, shine...it's Indiana so really you never know, but as the leaves fall it makes for perfect autumn...

We drove from about two hours away. We checked the website to see if there was a “pet policy” we even called and didn’t get a response so. I thought okay there have been dogs there before. We get there and there is about 30 “NO PETS” signs. So obviously I was upset driving so far. When I had brought my dog. I saw dogs inside where the event was happening. And I asked about it. They said they were employee dogs. But my dog wasn’t allowed in because she was a “liability”. In my opinion. Their dogs should not be allowed in either. Because they can be as much as an liability as mine. I will not return until something is stated on the website that pets are not allowed. Or when the employee dogs are not allowed in as well. Just...
