We were in Punxsutawney, from Michigan, for Groundhog Day 2025. Since we frequent wineries in the beautiful Old Mission Peninsula in the Traverse City area of Michigan, we knew we had to stop at Punxsutawney's Groundhog Winery. It is a quaint little shop. We did some tastings and purchased a bottle and a pair of glasses, to have as souvenirs. Our server didn't seem very knowledgeable and she asked questions of the owners. We were surprised to learn that their wines are aged in plastic, which we believe accounted for the unusual flavor we detected in the wines. The wines we are accustomed to, are aged in oak or stainless steel. I wouldn't say the wines were good, nor bad, at the Groundhog Winery, just different. Read moreWe stopped at this hidden gem on Saturday,June 22,2024. We were staying in a cabin in Dayton,PA and decided to explore. I’m so glad we stopped at this winery. The wonderful owners were so sweet, they have been in business for 9 years and enjoy going to festivals throughout Pennsylvania. The lady owner, I’ve forgotten her name was very generous in our wine sampling and we tried everything from her dessert wines to her dry Cabernet.
