I go to antique tractor shows almost every weekend in the spring, summer, and fall all over Michigan, northern Indiana, and northern Ohio. I haven’t made it to this show in several years due to different circumstances. This year I was able to make it. I hate to say it, but I was pretty disappointed. The amount of golf cart traffic is not only very annoying but unsafe as well. I expect people to be cruising around on different machines and have been doing the same for years. But this was ridiculous. This seemed like more of a golf cart show than a tractor show. Not only that, but I saw multiple times were people were walking around and the people driving golf carts were annoyed that people were “in their way.” I saw golf carts whipping around people or other carts and almost hit other people. My girlfriend, that I got into the hobby, was really annoyed as well. This was her first time being there and doesn’t want to return. Before you think I’m just some old coot that doesn’t know how to watch out at a show, my son has been driving tractors pulling trailers around shows since he was 6 or 7 and I never let him behave like most of the drivers (mostly teens) that I saw. Do yourselves a favor and do what a lot of other clubs do: limit golf carts to handicapped transportation. And people that want to just cruse can do it on a garden tractor like we do. At least then it still feels like a tractor show instead of a...
Read moreI always enjoy tractor shows and participating in them, but there are a couple items that make me prioritize other shows over this one. First, the pulls have some very odd rules regarding hitch types and tire sizes allowed in the classes. Not a huge deal, but something to keep in mind. The issue that may prevent me from being an exhibitor in the future is that somebody messed with my tractor when I left it overnight. Somebody moved it and left my fuel turned on. On this particular tractor, that is very likely to fill the crankcase with fuel. If I continue to come as an exhibitor, I will likely be loading up my tractor at the end of the day and bringing it home with me. Don’t get me wrong, I had a lot of fun here, but I feel like I need to keep my head...
Read moreWe went to the museum for the swap meet and to hang out with some friends. Free parking with a super cheap entry ticket ($2). Found all of the vendors incredibly fascinating. We browsed the vendor tables and spent some dollars on some awesome vintage tools and found some parts for a broken yard machine at home. We were able to arrange for a brief tour of the museum grounds, which was captivating. Donated to the foundation before we left to ensure future visitors the opportunity to take a time machine back in time at this historical treasure for many years to come. Special Thanks to...
