If you are deciding between the options in the Metro Detroit Area, make the choice and drive the extra miles to Mt. Holly or Pine Knob, these two options are better for EVERYTHING.
Terrain park is good but not as good as Pine Knob. The park crew does a good job at keeping the rails and jumps in safe conditions at Brighton. There is a small park/big park, but it is always over crowded during and is unsafe for children. The terrain park area is small.
There are virtually no trees on the hill so it is very windy and cold.
Lounge and restroom areas are usually clean. Ore Creek has some good food and service is OK with fair prices for the setting. There is a sitting area where you can bring your own food. The facilities are the only thing that are better then other places, other then that don't believe the hype get out and go ski at Mt Holly/Pine Knob you will be happy you did.
The rail jams that Mt Brighton are not ran well and feature the park crew picking there local favorites and friends. The announcer Chris Vest is not organized is rude, bullish, arrogant and mean to children. Chris Vest has blatantly mocked snowboarders and made fun of them over the microphone thinking he is cool and funny I assume. Chris challenged me to a fight in the parking lot, while Tiffany Stewart a manager did nothing to stop it. The rail jams are free but not worth the trouble if you want to get in on a fair challenge or something ran well or organized. Most of the best skiers/snowboarders do not compete as they are rigged. If Cody Lindig or Chris Vest is a part my children have decided they will not be participating.
This place is poorly ran and unorganized. Hiring the people that have no sense of managing people. A lot of hype but they don't live up as there is a lack of organization and true professionalism. William Bill Snyder works and acts like he owns the place, yet he doesn't resolve issues.
Ski school looks like it is always filled up on the weekends, but we have never used it. I do see large groups 10-20 kids with only 1 instructor. This could be fun or bad for a kid learning. I suppose you would know if you were signing up for a group ratio or if it were a private/personal lesson.
Ski patrol, is not even close to being great from what I have seen in all of my times there. Too many specific things done wrong and not timely to mention. They do have some employees that are great, just seeing kids pulled up and out the wrong way too many times. Snowboarders tend to love to get this footage on film often.
They do have a tough hill in the back (very short compared to others in the area) and it is too hard to get to if the rope is not operating in the back, which it rarely is as lift operators say they don't have enough help. Plenty of magic carpets running on the weekends but during the weekdays they are not always open and are crowded.
The biggest issue, is the kids run the place on the hill and in almost all of the departments don't show care or make it there own. There are some major issues around this place (maintenance guys Neil, Alex, Chris yelling at skiers snowboarders overusing authority, marijuana use by guests and theft). Tony from maintenance yelling at kids and interacting the wrong way. Lift operators putting stakes/javelins/poles with sharp ends in the ground to impale the riders that do not exit the tow rope timely. This is one of the biggest safety issues that Mt Brighton allows to keep happening. A lot of management that had started at Mt Brighton 15 years ago and doesn't know anything about managing people.
The epic pass is the only reason why people would consider going to Mt Brighton, not for the actual hill or terrain park as the other ski areas are easily better in every way. Save your family some headaches and go elsewhere, my Mom and Dad took me to Mt Holly and Pine Knob as a kid and I will do the same and I live close to...
Read morePine Knob over this place. I am very disappointed in Mt. Brighton. They do the bare minimum to stay open.
They do not work on building a large base. They only had all of their runs open for only a few days last year. They do not put ticket or season pass holders first. They put race teams and lessons first and take up half of the hill for all of that with no schedule of when everything is happening. The lift lines are sometimes very long and it's a 10 to 15 minute wait for a 30 second run. The snow is not very good compared to other local hills that make snow. The snow is usually either very sandy or very icy. There is very rarely "decent" snow. They do not groom at some point in the middle of the day which if you go in the evening can make it a poor experience. The snow gun per acre is insanely low compared to every other local south Michigan ski hill. They are one of the biggest acreage wise but there is so much unusable terrain that is no-one ever skis on, or at least very very few people do. The parks are always very crazy, usually 3 or 4 people all hitting one feature at once. Kids in the park like to throw snow/ice balls at anyone skiing by and trying to hit you in the head. Management has been informed about this and have done nothing. Race team and ski lessons always cut in line for the lifts leaving you waiting for a while, not to mention a lot of them will cut in line and only 1 or 2 people will get on the lift holding up the line even more. It seems like they are always having some sort of issues with their lifts especially when they fill them to capacity. I have been stranded on a lift for 15 minutes before. The lift on the backside the lift operators have complained about it is always having issues. The parking lot is terrible. Their idea of "fixing it" is just filling the pot holes near the front. When it is really busy the parking lot extends into the grass area which you can get stuck in if you have a smaller car. I used to have a season pass here but have been very disappointed and will be driving further for Pine Knob and their excellence service, snow, and...
Read moreSorry but this place is a Joke. Vail resorts ruined skiing by greed. Went to their site to get a ticket for my son for after-school since is snowing. No half day tickets available online. Called their local number and was transferred to a Vail rep off site that said half day can only be purchased in person and couldn't provide a price. What a joke. No wonder skiing is a dying sport only proped up by skiers from previous generations keeping it alive with their kids. Vail has priced new skiers out of the market and made skiing unbearable. We will stick to Alpine mountain and other non-Vail hills. It's no wonder people say stay away from Vail. $90+ per person just for a day. Basically $400 for a family of 4. Absolute joke. With dwindling days of snow, skiing on fake snow/ice, why would anyone purchase a family pass for thousands just to maybe ski 2 or 3 times in a year. It literally only snowed like 2 times in 23/24 ski season. Not many people got a value out of a season pass . Certainly not an average family. The two season pass holders I know went one time last year and didn't renew this year due to the price. Also pretty sure a good deal of these super positive reviews are fake and paid for. It's a small hill that's barly.considered 2. I've read some pretty over the top positive reviews like they visted an actual resort like Whistler or Breckenridge or something. Super over the top re iews are super suspect. Alpine is much better, and less expensive. Crystal Mountain is 100× better and way less expensive. 2 days there with a room is stll less than one day at Mt Brighton for a family. I just read that a family of 5 will cost over $800 at my Brighton if u need equipment. My 2 night trip to Crystal was less than $600 with a board and kids ski free. NO BRAINER. Little longer drive, but WAY better value...
