This beautiful little public park where I’ve been walking at for one year is now charging $5 per person for people outside of George township. This is so disappointing. They would not let me in despite me living just 8 minutes away, literally right on the outskirts of the township. It strikes me as very greedy and manipulative to be charging humans to walk at a small public park, truly a way to take advantage of people many of whom have been going here for years on a daily basis, I see grandparents bringing their grandchildren here, moms with their kids, etc. Note there are not lots of trails, this is not a state park (that’s understandable for state parks to charge). There is one nice paved trail that goes around the lake at this park and that’s it. This park will no longer be receiving my support as long as they continue to steal peoples money. Even if I were a resident there and could get in for free I don’t think I’d continue to go because the fees to get in are very unfair. I will miss this place but there are lots of other beautiful parks in the area too that don’t charge. I hope they get enough backlash that they take it back to being free as all public walking...
Read moreLove the splash pad at Maplewood Park! It is fully fenced - which makes it possible to keep all my kids in one area (otherwise I’m chasing a curious one year old, and leaving the other two -three and five year olds-on their own) There are tables scattered around the perimeter of the splash pad, some covered with umbrellas, some not. It’s a nice way to visit with other parents, or just bring a blanket/chair and a book to have a little quiet time while the kids are occupied. The area seems to be kept pretty clean. I have yet to go there and deal with much trash or yuck. People seem to be taking care of it pretty well!
My kids love the play area of the park as well. Visibility of kids while they play is decent. I find that I have to move around a bit to keep tabs on all three. There are some benches scattered about, but limited shade depending on when you go.
There is a great trail for biking/walking around the lake, A dock (for fishing?), a large multi stall that is kept up well, and a large pavilion all right there by the play space. There are tennis and basket ball courts at the...
Read moreThis place is great! So many features! First, there's the large playground and the splashpad for the kiddos. Restrooms are conveniently nearby. Then there's the 1-mile long nicely paved trail along the lake. There are a few benches and picnic tables along the trail for a more secluded experience with a small group. If you have a larger group, there's a large pavilion covering seven large benches and two tables next to the grills. The note says that reservations are required to use the pavilion though. There's a little overlook into the lake for fishing as well. And, for the sports lovers, there are tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. Basketball court even has 3 row...
