PEOPLE TAKING A TOUR: I want to discuss the experience you’re going to have. If you think this is a tour were you’re going to see farm animals, see cattle. You’re wrong. You will not get near any chickens, turkeys, cattle, lambs. You will not be engaging with any animals at all. You will be seeing how the farm works together, green houses, how the land works for an organic farm. You’ll learn about bugs and how they help the ecosystem of this farm work, you’ll learn about how the bugs are a natural way of taking care of the vegtables and fruits. How the geography of the farm plays into the production. That is a really neat process to learn about. They’re very educational about it. If you think this is a kid friendly experience it is not. They hand out magnified glasses but you never use them you just carry them around. this is not an entertaining kid friendly tour. You barely walk around the property. It’s a lot of talking and question. Nothing interactive. They are pushing for you primarily to eat organic and be apart of their program where they deliver you food. Really a neat program. I respect it and I respect our farmers, especially our organic farmers, but I really think it would be neat if we could’ve been around some animals and seen more of the farm. I understand it’s a lot of acres but it really felt to marketed towards “buy organic”. I respect the education aspect of things but it just seems really not worth your time or kids times. Not...

I sought the knowledge of a lot of farmers, many of whom were helpful, but few went to the lengths that Mac did to meet with me, invite me out to the farm to share their best practices, check in on me, and encourage me in the hard work of growing food for communities. Later when I worked for a non-profit focused on food access, the folks at Elmwood gladly made our work more possible because they believed keenly that people have a right to fresh, healthy, local, organic food that is grown with regenerative farming practices. This farm...
