Stayed at a townhouse next to the lake on the smaller, more intimate side, separated from the big lake by a road. The smaller lake was right out the backdoor, perfect for watching folks fish for trout, kayak, and paddleboard. No motorboats meant it was wonderfully peaceful—a slice of serenity with a mountain view backdrop.
On the larger side of the lake, there were awesome walking trails and a not-so-well-defined trail up the mountain for the adventurous souls. The lake had a fishing dock, 2 public restrooms, and a nice wildlife viewing area for spotting Big Horns. There were even public telescopes to enhance your wildlife-spotting experience. Read moreCan’t say enough great things about this lake! Especially in the winter. Tons of ice fishing and if you’re brave enough, ice skating would be fun but the ice is not smooth at all! It’s also very slippery. I love how the lake freezes in different ways throughout the lake. Don’t worry about falling through at all because it’s over a foot thick all around. Fun to walk near to overflow area too, small “semi frozen waterfall” to see over there. There’s also a frozen fish within the ice, which is pretty cool! Oh yeah, and apparently they allow you to drive your car on the lake for a small fee!! Haven’t don’t that but sounds...

Extremely shallow on shore, recommend waders, a boat or head to the dam or other side for fishing. Did get extremely windy to the point it was unpleasant. Way too many people here, would recommend during the week or during fall / winter. Not a bad view but definitely not a typical mountain lake due to the amount...
