Lots of land for hiking, open to dogs. I take my dog here almost daily as I live right up the street. There is a population of coyotes living here, but I haven't had serious issues. Lots of people like to bike here. The pictures people posted are not accurate! Whoever posted pics of the wood/board walkway- it doesn't exist in these woods! And the fields and whatever that white odd looking building is, these are not landmarks of Georgetown Rowley state. I'm not sure why people would post pics of somewhere else, but these woods are all forest and trails. There's really no man-made structures at all. No bathrooms, or facilities of any kind. Plenty of trails and space to get lost if you don't pay attention or know what you're doing! I've lived within walking distance of Georgetown Rowley state for 23 years, walked almost daily, and have managed to get lost out there twice. Be sure you know where...
Read moreFirstly I took a star off for the relentless rumble of 95 traffic. Somewhat muffled at the edges, but largely inescapable. Secondly, my review only speaks to the park on the East side of the highway. Parking on the side of Boxford Road is quite civilized and puts you right on the Bay Circuit trail. The BCT is impeccably maintained as are the bike trails (which are set up like a bobsled track) but I've seen some turkey runs that are in better shape than some of the State Forest offerings. There are indeed well constructed foot bridges on the eastern front despite what you may read here in other reviews. If you need some B roll for your post apocalyptic opus you could do a lot worse than the bridge over 95. Finally, noticed no fewer than 3 treestrands, which is more than a little...
Read moreThe good: Beautiful, peaceful scenery, and a good selection of twisty, technical mountain bike trails.
The bad: Trails really aren't maintained at all. Most trails are overgrown with very tall grass and weeds, and a lot of fallen limbs from storms over the past couple of years have not been cleared or cut. Also, even with a map, it can be hard to decipher your precise location based on the numbered intersection markers (when they're even present at all). Using a GPS-based trail app is recommended if you've never been...
