I had a tour with two other people, and they tried to get us in ahead of a large family reunion they had coming. It didnt work but it was fine. This home isnt a polished as the other ones I had seen in the area, but it was just as nice and interesting. They will have ac in the home soon and that will help. I was feeling quiet ill from the heat when I left but I couldn't imagine if it had been a few weeks ago during the heatwave we had. The stairs in this home are an interesting feature as is the fact that the family that built it didnt get to enjoy it very long before they had to sell it. They tell you all about that during the tour. And they turned us lose to wander the second floor at our leisure and the 3rd floor and the basement. So honestly it was worth a visit if you're in the area and its open. Right know it's only open during the first two weekend of the month because its private property...
Read moreMy family of 4 took an amazing private tour of Ward Hall with Dr. Ron Bryant. We love historic homes and visit as many as we can. We all agreed that this was one of the very best we have ever seen. Dr. Bryant knows all the stories, and his friendly, enchanting demeanor make it a pleasure to learn from him. This is one of the rare gems in historic home tours where patrons get to see it all, attic to basement. You really get a sense of what it was like to live in this grand old beauty. Ward Hall is surrounded by lovely gardens and trees that were planted in the time of Junius Ward himself, making experiencing the grounds outside an added treat. If you are a lover of history do not miss the chance to see Ward Hall in all its glory and learn about its past from a spectacular guide like Dr. Bryant. It will be an afternoon you...
Read moreThe most fabulous Antebellum mansion in Kentucky and doubtlessly one of the best in the entire South. This place allows more accessibility from basement to attic than any house museum I have ever enjoyed anywhere in America and Europe. Best of all is that you can have a fantastic tour guide or simply wander through the place by yourself and absorb the history and amazing craftsmanship of the place. This is no less wonderful when you realize that all of the staff is completely composed of volunteers and no one draws a salary. They also make a tremendous effort to tell you not only the history of the Ward and Johnson families who built this amazing place but also that of the servants and the enslaved without whom this mansion could not...
