I am sure the place is lovely, unfortunately, I will not be able to camp at the Park because their reservation system is grossly faulty. At the end of January, I've made a reservation on-line for March 30 and awaited a confirmation email. Since for weeks, I received no confirmation, I assumed that there was no availability and made an alternate plan. On March 27th, an email came (from an employee's email account, not from the reservation system) informing me that I do have a reservation and I need to call with my form of payment. I emailed and explained that I am no longer planning to stay at Blythe because without a prior confirmation, I made different plans. I was asked to call in and pay a $10 cancellation fee. While I was on line with a nice lady, I informed her that I have no communication of Glynn County Gov-Blythe Island Regional Park neither in my inbox, nor in my spam folder (I made sure and checked both while the lady was on the phone with me). She informed me that there is a known issue/problem with the Park's email system and that they do not know what to do about it and proceeded to charge me a $10 cancellation fee (I wonder, how many other potential guests were unfairly charged cancelations fees?) $10 is not much money, but I do not find it OK for the establishment to charge me for something that, in this case and in my opinion, they failed to deliver on. The Park employee was not able to prove that an email was generated by the system but I was able to prove that I did not receive such an email. I am not pleased with this type of service and advise future travelers to be cautious with this institution. Note that cancellations done within 48 hours are charged at $40. I guess, if I would not call in or if I would have hung up on the employee, or perhaps refused to make the payment, the Park would not have a way to charge me. I feel like I did the right thing, but I also think that Blythe Island Regional Park, took an advantage of me and panelized me for their own incompetence -- that is fundamentally not OK in my opinion. I would have loved to camp at the Park and am disappointed both by the unfortunate change of plans and what I consider to be an affair $10 fee. Please be warned to make sure that your potential visit to Blythe Island Regional Park, does on end up with a double disappointment as mine did. I am writing this review to give the Park an opportunity to make this right and to refund me the $10 charge (not much money, but a mater of...
Read moreWe only live about 7 miles from the actual campground, so we take advantage of a weekend getaway when we can. We love the campground mainly due to the large wooded sites. You have plenty of space to relax and enjoy your stay. The sites are not paved, but the sites are well maintained and mostly level. We have had to use leveling blocks on a few sites, but not too often. There are almost 100 sites but they tend to fill up quickly for weekenders so it would be wise to plan in advance.
There is no pool, but the other amenities more than make up for it in my opinion. There is a large freshwater lake and they have a beach area which is roped off for swimmers as well as kayak and jon boat rentals. There is no gas powered motors allowed on the lake and it is very clean and clear. There are miles of nature trails for walking and also cycling. The bike trails through the woods look very challenging but we choose to stick to the walking trails.
There are several bath houses located around the campground and they are well maintained and stocked. The office area has a couple of soft drink vending machines, ice and corn hold boards set up. You can also purchase firewood and have it delivered to your site. However, it is not a convenience store so there are no other items for sale there. There is a convenience store about a mile away if you forget any items.
The main reason we love to camp here is for the saltwater fishing. They offer a boat lift, dock, fishing pier, ramp and live and dead bait. It is a short boat ride to the intercoastal waterway and the ocean from there.
The park also has gazebos that can be rented for the day for parties and group functions with picnic tables, sinks with running water and grills. Volley ball courts and a playground with swings, slide and merry go round are available for the younger ones. This place is one of those...
Read moreThis review is not a knock on the park per se, more of a FYI and just be aware. We stayed Sept 20-26 2025 site 60. Pros Full hook ups. Close proximity to major interstate/highways. (+/-). Shopping/food/fuel all within a few miles in either direction. Park was clean - sites had enough of a vegetation screen between them to not feel like the wal mart parking lot. Nice lake with playground/swimming area /fishing on the entrance side of the park. Boat ramp and parking area. Picnic shelters . We didn’t use any of the facilities-so can’t speak to that.
Cons: Traffic noise from I-95 was a dull roar off in the distance. Pulp mill was kinda stinky our first couple days- guess it depends on which way the wind blows - if it’s gonna stink or not. Every site has a very large rectangular concrete slab (approx . 8’x12’) protruding out of the ground 6”-8”. I’m sure they were great for a 1950’s travel trailer - not so much for today’s super sized Rv’s. Severely limited the outdoor space for our normal setup. ( outdoor rug- screen shelter- portable dog fence area). The biggest con * and I’m not sure if it’s park specific or the geographical region- (we travel with 3 mini schnauzers ). We discovered on day 2 that we had a couple of seed ticks /deer ticks on us. Found a few on our pups. We limited our potty walks to the roadway without exploring any trails or grassy areas. Day 3 it got worse - day 4/5 we didn’t get any further off the roadways than a foot or so. Upon arriving home - flea/tick bath immediately- our 3 pups were covered in literally hundreds of these tiny pin head size ticks. So - pet owners and families with smaller kids - beware! The tick population at this park is off the charts! ps- we do use nextguard as a preventative measure- we have ticks in our home area of N Ga - but nothing like this. Sorry to say, but this will be a once and...
