This property is a large so be prepared to walk. Have comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and weather appropriate clothes. Although a lot of the land is covered with trees it can still get quite hot on a warm day. Oh, bug spray would definitely come in handy lol. The grounds are well taken care of and the rescued animals seem to be well taken care of. It definitely felt more like a habitat then a zoo or something less animal friendly. It was definitely relaxing walking around the property and checking out the animals. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and pleasant. Some of the animals of course were hiding out in their habitants because that's their business lol. We would definitely visit again if we were in the area and I would recommend you visited if you like to learn a little history about the area and see some animals that are being rehabilitated or that have been rescued and cannot be released to the wild.

This was my first time here. It is very peaceful and beautiful! The Google Maps directions had me turning onto Buck Shoals Drive. That road is closed (employee entrance only) and you would need to turn right onto River Rd to gain access to the public area - not too far up the road. I spent some time walking on a river access trail. I couldn't find any restrooms or picnic tables. It may be further than where I traveled to, or in the area that is blocked off. Anyway, I did take a few pics but not as much as I hoped to get. I still enjoyed my time there!

I wanted to go fishing and the only place to park was off River rd. Once i got to the parking lot this is the sign i saw. I wish i knew this before coming.

Beautiful place with a lot of POTENTIAL...BUT!!! They make you park forever away from the lil river access beach/area. Making it impossible for handicapped individuals from enjoying the river. Or anyone for that matter. People pulled up and said they saw the park property for sale in an ad for 87k an acre. Maybe with that money build a parking lot down by the river and make some hammock hitching post. Like I said this place is amazing and full of potential if they make some changes. These places should cater to the taxpayers enjoyment and...
