Keown Falls Trail is a beautiful hidden gem! Rarely do you get both a waterfall and a vista view. I followed the loop to the right, and it was a gentle, but steady uphill until about 3/4 of the way to the falls. It switched to steep stone stairs until the falls. There are also a few stream crossings. I would rate it as easy/moderate vs just easy. I would recommend wearing hiking shoes; my hoka runners were not cutting it!

The good: The trail is short enough to be doable for the average joe, but long enough to make the trip worth it. The trail is in beautiful forest, has a great view at the top, and boasts not one but two waterfalls! The trail even continues behind one of them. It was also fun to see the wild berries growing on the side of the trail. There are pit toilets at the trailhead, which is great.

The bad: I wish there was more information on the sign at the trailhead. I noticed blue blazes going up, so I continued to follow them. This took me up Johns Mountain until I realized that I was no longer on the Keown Falls loop. After some research, blue blazes are for the Pinhoti Trail, a long distance trail from Alabama to Georgia. I somehow missed the sign indication that the falls trail continues behind the first falls. There were also 8 trees that have fallen over the trail, which I'm sure happened in the storms last week. While I enjoyed the challenge, it is quite hazardous in...

I had a great time here. There's plenty to see. The great view at the top is worth it all. The trail can be slightly treacherous when unprepared. I recommend wearing hiking shoes. Trust me, your feet will thank you later. One small waterfall to see at the top. This seems to be a popular trail so expect to see other people. You won't have a lick of service either. Download your map and navigation before...

Very pretty. It's a loop, with an uphill trail and then downhill on the way back. Couple areas have stone steps cut in. The waterfall wasn't much more than a trickle when we were here, but the walk is beautiful. Note that when you start you'll get to a fork, you can choose to begin by walking to the right or the left - the right side has nicer view and the left side is more...
