Again almost anywhere you go on the island is just natural beauty but this was particularly a really neat part of the island that we were able to enjoy. Plenty of wildlife natural beauty although I will say the mosquitoes even for February for a little bothersome. What a trip to the gift shop in a quick purchase of some bug spray and the problem was resolved.

A very unique place to visit and can only be accessed by invitation or with an organized group. So much to see, yet not easy to get around or to completely appreciate the community.

Beatifull place. But the tour doesn't allow you to stay to long and really enjoy it Don't take the private tour.... Regular school bus... They don't have the key of the lighthouse.

Great place for a nature walk. Excellent beaches on Ocean side of the island. There are no amenities on the island. There is no lodging. You need to provide your own food and other necessities. What comes on the island must comes off the island. Only access is by boat and you need a permit and a contact on the island, who will meet you at the doc and take you where you need to go. For the most part you need to catch the ferry back to the mainland the same day you come. I recommend coming with a tour group unless you're a research scientist with a permit or a relative of one of the island's residents, all of whom are descendents of freed slaves given land grants on the island...

This is a beautiful island with so much history. The beaches are totally deserted since the only way to arrive is by ferry. The R.J. Reynolds Mansion is a sight to behold considering all materials had to be brought...
