The marsh and fishing loop in early summer is great. Lots of young and baby birds. Swans, loons, geese, cranes, wood ducks, beavers, deer, turtles etc... went in early June and saw a ton of wildlife. Plan about 2 hours or so for the longer loop, as you or others will stop often taking in the scenery and watching the wildlife. It is just that tons of lakes, ponds, wetlands and birds. Its quiet and peaceful. If that's not your thing you'll be stuck behind other cars doing that, so don't go if its not let others enjoy it for what it is.

A wonderful stop to see wildlife. We saw Swans, Moons, woodpeckers and even a deer today. Allow yourself a good 1-2 hours to go through the area. the road was well maintained and very impressive for a wildlife refuge.

This is a really neat place. The only mammal we saw was a muskrat, but the scenery is still beautiful.

Beautiful scenery and wildlife (we saw loons, geese, ducks, swans, turtles, and a beaver). They have one way roads, but you can pull off and walk if you please. The couple in the information center were very helpful and friendly, they provide maps and advice for your time in the refuge. *Be careful if you walk the paths at all, we found a tick...

No place quite like it. Has a nice fishing loop that you can drive down. Seven or eight miles of unspoiled upper peninsula beauty. I've seen blackbear, many eagles and osprey,as well as geese, loons and just about everything kind of native and migratory bird you can think of ...
