There are 2 Vista points on easy trail only. There is no view on the Intermediate and Advanced trail. Started out from easy part of trail Lookout Island then to Big Glenn (2.2mi). From there we went off the trail going down until we reached the intermediate trail (0.3mi) took a left and completed the intermediate loop (0.9mi) from that point. After that we got on and finished the advanced trail as well (2.5mi). To finish all 3 loops (6mi) it took us about 3hrs. The trail was very peaceful (lightly trafficed) even on a beautiful Sunday of a long weekend.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Alligator Hill Trail has three levels of hiking: easy, intermediate and advanced. The easy trail has scenic viewpoints of both Lake Michigan and Glen Lake and can be hiked in two hours. Trails are wide and sometimes sandy. Vehicle pass required to park at trailhead and needs to be purchased in advance. Leashed dogs only from April thru November, no dogs December thru March. No bikes allowed. Vault at trailhead.

Some great hiking loops! This is a relatively popular hiking spot with a couple overlooks and multiple levels of difficulty. You can get over 6 miles if doing a large loop touching all trails. While the easy loop is listed as “easy,” I’d say comparatively to the area, it should be listed closer to moderate due to the long inclines and sandy footing along most of the trail.

WARNING: Ticks are EXTREMELY prevalent here this year. My brother and sister-in-law and I made it up to the scenic overlook before finding one on one of our four dogs. Started looking more on our way back and found at least 20 by the time we got to the car, stopping every 2 minutes or so. Checked multiple times, loaded up, found three more on the car ride back. Checked again at home and threw clothes in the dryer, at least 5 more found. Checked multiple times again and went inside after we thought we were good. Ended up finding two more that night and two more the next morning. Beautiful...

I loved all of the trails. My wife and I like a lot of trees and this did not disappoint. A lot of shaded and wooded areas but a few area do get sun. The advanced route had a lot of trees and shade. The intermediate was party shaded and wooded, but also had portions with sun. We did not do the complete route of the “easy route.” The portion of the easy route we did do had about half and half of sun and shaded. I’d also say the intermediate was just about as difficult as the advanced. We did do the advanced portion first then jumped on to the...
