Back in May I purchased 4 golden 300 hybrid layer ducks from Metzer Farms. At the time of order I was offered life insurance against the purchase for the first year, I accepted the insurance and paid the additional cost per bird. 2 weeks or so after the purchase, I placed a claim for insurance against one of the ducks that unfortunately drowned and the claim went through without a hitch. The bird was replaced with a golden 300 and a hatchery select bird for transport.
Shortly after receiving the replacement in June, there was a tornado that came through my area, It destroyed my entire neighborhood as well as my roof and fence line surrounding my property that protected my ducks. Surprisingly my 4 remaining ducks survived the tornado in their enclosure and all was well, except the fact that we had no fence.. just their duck hut and run that they slept in at night.
After the storm I fought the insurance company and the fencing company for about 3 months total to have my fence replaced, during this time my ducks were kept safe in a smaller enclosure that we would check on constantly, but they were not allowed to free range in the backyard like they had become accustomed to due to the fence being down in many places from the storm. I believe this led to their untimely demise.
Back in July we had an incident where two dogs without collars climbed into and became trapped inside my duck run enclosure as we had lost the roof to the run and there was no privacy fence surrounding the property line. When I came out that Sunday morning to check on my girls, I was greeted with the sight of torture! These dogs slaughtered my babies in the early morning hours before I got up and were waiting to be set free. So I did what anyone living within city limits would do, I called the local police to file a report and have animal control remove the attackers.
My fence was finally finished up recently and I thought this would be a great time to replace my lovely little ducks! When I contacted Metzer Farms about my three remaining life insurance policies, and how to purchase a fourth of the same breed, I was greeted with an easy experience. They were prompt with their email responses, and actually contacted me personally to see if I wanted an earlier shipment date because they had an abundance from their previous hatch. I was thrilled and accepted immediately because who doesnāt love baby ducks?!?!
I 100% recommend purchasing life insurance against your animals if and when possible. The extra cost covered everything and it was simple to make a claim. Will definitely buy from again in the future!!
Thank you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate at the bottom: Very disappointed! Honestly I don't ever write reviews, but I just wanted to make others aware! My husband and I order two assorted call ducks hoping to get two different colors as it states. I even went as far as emailing them to assure this would be the case. I was assured that I would get two colors and if for some reason they weren't available they would call me and give an option to wait till some became available, or for them just to send what they had. Well my husband missed a call from them where they left a voicemail letting us know they only had two white calls to send. They said we could receive those this week or that we could wait till next week where they could send two different ones. My husband called me, and we decided to wait, We really wanted two different colors and we had ducks coming in next week of different breeds, so it actually might work out better! He called them after discussing with me and they didn't pick up, so he left a voicemail. I called twice trying to get a hold of them as well, since he was at work, but once again no one picked up. I waited about an hour and tried again and finally someone picked up. She informed me that they actually already sent out our ducks and that there was nothing they could do. I said, "ok" because I was in shock and honestly didnt know what else to say. My husband called them back and explained that we didn't understand why they would call us, and give us an option, when they were just going to send them out anyway. She ended up telling him that they really hadn't been hatching anything other than white calls and if we decided to wait till next week she didn't know if we would get them then either. All this to say if you order the assorted calls just know you're most likely only getting white calls for cheaper. I'm hoping the ducklings arrive safe, but I was really hoping to have two different colors and I'm very disappointed!
Update: After seeing my review, we got a call and email apologizing for the situation. We were told they would remedy it by sending and different color call with our order that is supposed to arrive next week! The customer service was great! They were very apologetic about the whole situation! We look forward to receiving our calls! Thank you to Metzer for taking care of your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy experience with ordering goslings from Metzer Farms was great, and I highly recommend them and African Geese for your farm or acreage!
I ordered eight African goslings from Metzer Farms and received them in May 2022. Unfortuanately, the USPS shipment was delayed along the way and they were in transit for five days. One died enroute and another the first night, but Metzer Farms immediately replaced the losses at no cost and without questions. Great customer service!
At nearly seven months old, my flock of African Geese are of great interest to my friends and neighbors, and a positive addition to my homestead. They have all been very healthy and are thriving in the Pacific Northwest weather -- loving the rain and puddles! I ordered straight run and ended up with 3 ganders and 5 geese.
I chose African Geese for their social nature and temperament, and have not been disappointed; they are very social, quite talkative, and not aggressive with visitors (although the reputation of geese makes some nervous around them). They are handsome birds with a bit of individuality in their plumage and each with individual personalities (and fitting names like Biff, Cuddles, Pee Wee, Nervous Nellie, and Big Bert). They take well to being held and often seek attention, and will follow me everywhere around my acreage if allowed. They also have proven to be great lawn mowers and a big help in controlling weeds in the vegetable garden.
I recommend Metzer Farms as a supplier of African goslings because of the obvious quality of thier breeding stock and for their great customer service. Geese at the homestead are a joy and source of entertainment and laughs -- don't hesitate to try them or buy from...
