as of (3/15/2017) when I rode my bike down here it was closed. There was cops blocking the entryway several thousand feet before the canyon bridge, so I couldn't even see it being destroyed by a wrecking ball . They say the bridge will be under construction for at least 9-12 months. there's no way you can access the other side of the bridge except for helicopter. They closed the hiking trails that snake around the bridge even though you could still theoretically sneak through those (you might as well swim for that matter). Either way, from Carmel to this bridge is probably the best part of the california coastline. I would definetely recommend driving down and back (at least to bixy bridge, afterwards the road goes inland and becomes less interesting). Could this bridge have been built in a way that it wouldn't have been damaged beyond repair in this situation?
