Ferne Clyffe Waterfall Trail isn't just a walk in the woods; it's a genuine immersion into a serene and surprisingly wild corner of Illinois. From the moment you step onto the trail, you're enveloped by a sense of natural cleanliness. The air feels fresh, carrying the subtle scent of damp earth and the rustling leaves overhead. It's clear that this area is well-maintained, allowing you to truly appreciate the unspoiled beauty without distraction. The hike itself is a delight. It's not overly strenuous, making it accessible for a variety of fitness levels, yet it offers enough gentle inclines and varied terrain to feel like a proper exploration. The path winds through lush greenery, past towering rock formations draped in moss, and alongside trickling streams. Every turn seems to reveal a new picturesque vista. And then, of course, there's the waterfall. Reaching it is a reward in itself. The gentle cascade, especially after a bit of rain, is simply breathtaking. The sound of the water hitting the rocks creates a peaceful ambiance, inviting you to pause, breathe deeply, and soak it all in. It's a truly calming and photogenic spot. What struck me most about Ferne Clyffe was the feeling of being truly connected to nature. It's a place where you can escape the everyday hustle and find a sense of tranquility. Whether you're an avid hiker or simply looking for a refreshing outdoor experience, the Ferne Clyffe Waterfall Trail is a gem. It’s a reminder of the natural beauty that Illinois has to offer, and it’s definitely a place I’ll be returning to. If you're anywhere nearby, don't miss the chance to experience this...

This is not Ferne Clyffe. This is the water fall on Regent road. It's a beautiful place to visit but Google has it mapped incorrectly. With that said, if you plan to visit please! please! please! DO NOT LITTER! There have been many times that I have came out here to hike and found empty beer cans and other types of trash scattered everywhere. Also the waterfall and surrounding areas are extremely dangerous as far as there not being well defined paths and high cliffs. Be careful if you visit..... unless you plan on littering. If you plan on littering please be as reckless as...

Paved parking, a big shelter with picnic tables that's excellent for a get together I love playing frisbee there and it's right by the bluff trail which is gorgeous. Most folks go to the waterfall trail it's level pebbled and now has a new walkway over the creek to keep your feet dry if you go after heavy rains it's wonderful. The campgrounds both are excellent. Phone reception is good on gsm or CDMA but streaming data would be slower...

The walk from the picnic area was super easy, very flat and smooth on a nice wide trail- good for pets and probably strollers and kids, too. The walk from the campground was a bit more rugged, but still worth it, and walking alongside the cliffs was a constantly beautiful site. The waterfall wasn't flowing when we were there due to little rain in previous weeks, but the colors and site of it was still totally worth the walk. Highly recommend it.

Beautiful and easily walkable. The main trail to the water fall is very accessible with lots of moss and rocks to look at along the way. We also tried the hawk cave trail and loved it. The almost amphitheater rock insets are huge. They really make you feel like a tiny little ant. Everything was clean and the trails were well maintained. Got to see lots of foliage, deer, squirrels and even found a few mushrooms.

Going down the Waterfall Trail wasn't too hard. My 73 year old knees didn't complain much. But I knew I didn't want to climb up after we visited the falls. The way to avoid the steep climb up is to walk to the parking lot on the Big Rocky Hollow Trail and follow the road back to the campsites. We were in the 1-23 fcfs loop. The falls itself had no water, just a trickle, but still beautiful.
