We have camped here four times now since 2014. Have never had an unpleasant experience until today. We just finished our six night vacation, and as SOON as we pulled into our driveway we got a call from the park office.
They sighed and mentioned "the condition we left the site in". I immediately started going over the site in my head, ticking off imaginary boxes thinking to make sure that we didn't leave any trash behind. I even took a broom and swept the entire base of the fireplace. I also made sure to wipe down the picnic table the night before we left. I couldn't imagine why were being called about the condition we left it in.
Chalk. Washable chalk. They were calling us to complain about the chalk that was already 99 percent washed away from the previous rain storm.
It's funny, because I picked up at least five beer bottle caps from our site during our stay and we didn't have beer. But chalk that literally washes away with water is a big issue for them.
The campground is nice, but they should definitely put more attention towards the literal trash that people leave behind, and the people that ignore signs posted around about no swimming in fishing spots instead of scolding us for having chalk on our site.
Chalk that we even went as far as picking up every used piece before we left! 🤦♀️
Like I said, we have been here four different times...but this will be our last. Plenty of...
Read moreThis is a beautiful campground with something for everyone. There are secluded campsites that backup to a babbling brook (sites 1, 3, 5, 7 particularly), so you have the soothing sounds in the background. Other campsites back onto an open field and allow for more opportunity for large groups to hang together. All the sites are well spaced out and allow for privacy (especially the ones listed above). The bathrooms are some of the cleanest I've seen - because of COVID, they are "family style," so only you and your family can be in there at one time. I greatly appreciated that as I have been at other campgrounds where other campers do not wear masks in the bathhouse. The showers are located on the opposite, and are single occupancy. The showers are coin operated and cost a quarter a minute. They were also the cleanest public showers I've ever seen. We did not spend a lot of time exploring the campground itself, as we used it to hang out in the evenings after hiking during the day. There is offsite hiking everywhere, and we did the Pine Mountain Trail in the White Mountains Forest (about 7 minute drive). Very close to Mt. Washington, took us about 30 minutes to get to the Cog. You are also very close to the Moose Trail Parkway, and we spent a few nights driving around...
Read moreWe settled here for camping after our original plans fell through and I couldn't be happier. We were at site 6 in this cool screened in hut that we set our tents up inside. The staff working at the front were incredible. I believe their names were John, Cam, and Josh. They were so great to chat with, made sure there was fresh coffee every day to grab when we went by the front. They recommended local fishing and activities and were super friendly. The area surrounding the campsite was amazing as well; the area (fishing pond, river, and swimming pond) seems to have taken some recent storm/flood damage but definitely will be nice to see in the future when it's sorted out. Early in the season so we didn't see too many other people and we had an absolute blast with the space to ourselves. The day we left, the weather was really nice and we saw a lot of bikers and hikers walking through as we were packing up the cars. We managed to pull our vehicles right up to the campsite which helped for tossing our food in the car when we slept. The first night we were in we saw a moose walking right by as well! Second night we got to see the northern lights a bit in the sky due to the solar storm. Overall, super happy with the campsite and we will definitely be back...
