Went to visit Castle Rock and I saw Monument Rocks on Google Maps, thus we traveled another 50 miles to check it out! It's a lovely piece, well preserved and unlike Castle Rock.. Monument Rocks are smaller in size, but still massive in beauty.
Plenty of parking here and its free to visit, lots of History and its very peaceful and quiet out here. Monument Rocks is private property - no camping and all that. And also.. No Climbing, there is a sign that says that.. but I wish they'd also put a similar sign on the opposite side so that folks who enter Monument Rock from the other side don't accidentally break the rules - unknowingly.. And also, gotta keep dogs on the leash.
Monument Rocks is treated like an actual park - whereas Castle Rock doesn't appear to have any listed rules.

Thank you so much to the family / landowners for allowing the general public to observe and appreciate this relic of ancient...
Read moreDriving to Monument Rocks was the biggest, amazing, adrenaline rush I had the entire vacation. I knew that I was going to go out to Monument Rocks either at sunrise or at sunset, to capture a photo of the sun in the archway of one of the rocks. At first, I was on Highway 83 and then Google maps lead me to a dirt road called Jayhawk. OMG! It was 7:41 am, sun light shining right in my eyes. I could barely see the road. All I saw was blackness and couldn't tell where the road met the pasture. And just as I thought that was the worst of it. The universe decided to add steep hills and I didn't know if the tiny Toyota Corolla car I was driving was going to make it. At the top of the road and after a big bend, I found myself in a pasture full of cows! And there, off to the right, kissing the horizon, was the Grand Monument Rocks. You can drive right up to the rocks. There's no fee or tickets. It's just you and nature! They are a wonderful photo opportunity, and most the time, no one is out there. It's so peaceful...
