I am afraid of heights but an avid hiker/backpacker. I’ve hiked many hiking trails around western Washington my whole life and usually, if I'm hiking near a cliff or extremely steep hill (the kind you’d keep sliding until you hit the bottom) I get some vertigo but I’ve never been turned back by my fear until this hike. I know there are probably many far worse/more dangerous hikes but this one was too sketchy for me. About 1/4 of the way up, one side of the trail is pretty much a straight drop off maybe 30ft? into the gorge below that the river flows through. The elevation gain is average and the trail itself is standard other than the very steep terrain it has on the side. About 1/2 -2/3 the way up, the left side of the trail turned into a sketchy drop off again and there was a strange stair/ladder you had to scale with the drop off on the left side. The obstacle looked fairly easy to climb but it also looked like if you made any kind of mistake and fell, you’d probably get seriously hurt or even killed if you fell to the left and continued falling down the cliff. I didn’t get very close because as soon as I saw it, I basically said HELL NO and turned around. It seemed like most other hikers were mostly at ease but there was another group that had obviously turned back as well. I had no problem on the skyline/high skyline trail but this was a no go for me. Just a warning to anyone with a...

As you make your way up, the sound of rushing water grows louder, building up the anticipation for the grand finale. And when you finally reach Comet Falls, prepare to be in awe. The waterfall cascades down from great heights, creating a mesmerizing display!! The mist in the air adds a refreshing touch, making it a perfect spot to cool off on a warm day. We stayed close to the waterfall and actually started to get cold from the mist! The hike itself was moderate. Many steep steps and lots of uphill walking. Don't forget to bring your camera, because the views from the top are simply...
Read moreAs of June 20th, 2021- The bridge to get to Comet Falls has been washed out. But there two logs that have been placed that you can walk on to get across. Even someone as unbalanced as me had no issues crossing so don’t worry too much. Of course cross at your own risk. Even if you fall - the water at the crossing area is shallow. I have uploaded a video of the crossing to give you a better idea of what the crossing is like. Have a...
