My dear companion and I camped / glamped out on the lake for a couple of days this summer. Campsite No.14 is very nice, with easy beachy access to the water, good trees for shade and hammocking, and a lovely view of the heavens come nightfall. There are also faucets on site, communal bathrooms and showers within walking distance, and a pretty nice but fairly rough trail around the lake and through some of the more primitive campsites. There is a marina about an hour around the lake (roads are nice and paved and pothole-free) where you can take your trip to the next level by renting a pontoon. Weren't too many other boats out on the lake while we was there. Get you a pontoon and go see Hell's Gate. Throw some people in the raft in tow and then go full throttle and throw 'em right back off into the water. If you got some kind of kayak, canoe, or other watercraft of your own, do be sure to bring it along to camp with you. I didn't get to gone fishin' because I didn't realize our group had fishing poles until it was too late, but I reckon you can catch you some fresh fishies for supper out there on that there lake.
You will have to share your campsite with a number of spider and ant communities, but thankfully I did not encounter any mosquitoes whatsoever except whilst trying to sleep in a hammock one night. Must be some dadgum nocturnal mesquites. However, the predator you really gotta watch out for is old Vaden Todd Lewis. He creeps and stalks and walks around the lake just looking for little souls like yours. He might promise to treat you well and call you his sweet angel, but the man is dangerous. Legend has it his middle name is “Danger.” When he asks you to walk around the lake with him or go behind the boathouse, what he's really asking you is this: “Do...

Read moreThis is an all right spot to bring the family & friends. This lake offers pretty much what any lake should, HOWEVER... it is really dirty and the ants are evil. I get that the bbq areas are mainly used throughout the spring & summer so I’m sure it has much built up cobwebs and dust from the winter & fall. Although, I think it’s safe to say we’re officially entering summer! Can you PLEASE DUST OFF THE PITS AND SPRAY LOTS OF BUG SPRAY EVERYWHERE!?! Also: it would be a good idea to have designated poop areas for the dogs just so my kids aren’t stepping on poop all the way...
