Nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Oklahoma, our recent stay at this campsite provided us with a mix of awe-inspiring natural beauty and some challenges worth mentioning. Here's a comprehensive review of our experience:
PROS: The campsite is a true gem in the heart of Oklahoma, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the lush greenery, vibrant flora, and the serene atmosphere.
The spillway is a highlight of this campsite, with its pristine water and an array of stones jutting out of the terrain. The mesmerizing view of this area provided an excellent backdrop for relaxation and contemplation.
The abundance of wildlife in the area was a pleasant surprise. Birdwatching enthusiasts will find delight in the variety of birds, while the occasional snake, possum, or gray squirrel sighting added an extra touch of wilderness to our camping experience.
For those seeking tranquility, the campsite didn't disappoint. The night was incredibly peaceful, with the soothing sounds of nature (including a VERY loud owl that sang for about 5 minutes), making it the perfect escape from the daily hustle and bustle.
CONS: Unfortunately, the peace and quiet were disrupted during the daytime due to the constant noise from tourists riding all-terrain vehicles. This activity, while thrilling for some, may not be to everyone's liking and did detract from the overall serenity.
A considerable downside was the condition of the restrooms. They were not only dirty but also lacked basic privacy measures. For campers who value clean and private facilities, this aspect was quite disappointing.
Although the campsite's proximity to fruit trees may seem idyllic, we found it a bit of a nuisance. Heavy, rotten pears falling from the trees posed a minor inconvenience, particularly for campers looking to set up their tents underneath the trees.
The gravel in the spillway, while aesthetically pleasing, was less than ideal for those who enjoy walking barefoot. The sharp edges of the stones can be uncomfortable for those unprepared for the terrain.
While the natural beauty is undoubtedly a highlight, the campsite offers limited activities beyond walking the loop trail and sitting by the campfire. For campers looking for more entertainment options, it might be a bit lacking.
In conclusion, this campsite in Oklahoma offers a picturesque setting that will undoubtedly appeal to nature enthusiasts seeking scenic beauty and tranquility. However, it comes with its share of challenges, including noise from ATVs, subpar restroom facilities, and some inconveniences caused by the surrounding fruit trees and the sharp gravel. While it may not be the ideal destination for everyone, those looking for a quiet retreat in the midst of natural splendor will find it a...
Read moreLittle Blue State Park is a must-see. As a local to the area who lives within 30-minutes to the park, this is one of our favorite places to hang out during the summer.
The weekends are very busy and during the summer holidays, Little Blue will be packed out. Cars and off-road vehicles will be driving everywhere and the people will park in any open available spot. It can sometimes be difficult to find parking when it's super busy. There are campsites at this location, and they tend to book out in advance.
However, if you visit during a weekday, you'll more than likely have the entire park to yourself and that will seem like a luxury and relaxing oasis.
Although this may seem like a "party" spot on the weekends, it is truly relaxing nearly anytime throughout the week.
Due to the influx of people, there are times, especially after major holidays, where you'll come across all sorts of trash anywhere and everywhere that people have left drink containers and/or food behind. I do wish there were a larger clean-up effort put towards the State Parks in Oklahoma-- including this one. It is such a beautiful place and it is disheartening to see people trash it out.
Overall, Little Blue State Park is a fun and enjoyable place to visit. It is great for any nature enthusiasts. The water is cold and clear. There is a small waterfall. You can climb and explore the rocks. Or you could even visit the little cave on-site. People often fish in the lakeside area that is below the creek. It's also fun to watch the off-road vehicles climb the rocks too. There is a little of something for nearly everyone here to-do. Although I would not recommend it as an accessible place to visit.
Be sure when traveling or camping here to take your trash with you or utilize the...
Read moreLittle Blue State Park in Disney might one of Oklahoma's best kept secrets. I've lived in the area for nearly 50 years and just recently discovered it. “Little Blue” is a 32-acre Oklahoma State Park located near Disney, Oklahoma in the northeastern part of the state. The park is a popular site for bass fishing and water sports. It includes a shallow, clear-water creek that is a perfect place for families with young children to cool off during the Summer months. There are 30 primitive tent camping spots nestled between the trees and Grand Lake.
Rock formations, waterfalls, and pools of clear water offer many scenic opportunities for photographers. Signs warn visitors to seek higher ground when they hear sirens that indicate the floodgates are opening during Spring flooding. Pets are welcome if they are on a leash.
Although the park is open 24 hours daily, the office is open Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm in the Summer and 9am-5:30pm in the Winter. A Park Ranger is on duty on the weekends.
Little Blue State Park is adjacent to Hogan's Off-Road Park, which is located beside the Pensacola dam spillway. The park gives off-roaders easy access to about five square miles of trails and rock structures for...
