Montreal Falls is possibly the best waterfall + hike combo in the entire UP. Take Smiths Fisheries Rd about 5 miles back into the woods. Typing “Montreal Falls” into Google Maps took us right to the trailhead. It’s a gravel/dirt road but pretty well maintained. I passed cars but would probably recommend 4WD just in case. You’ll reach a parking area on your right about halfway in - don’t stop here - follow the road to the left and keep going about two more miles. You’ll see a fence and the fishery buildings on your right. Park just past them and before the trailhead. The trail itself is moderate difficulty. I’d even rate this easy, but there are a handful of spots where the trail is quite literally along the edge of a 25 ft cliff so you do have to take your time and watch your step. Other than that, it’s the usual UP hike over trees and roots. NOTE: some reviews and websites say this hike is 0.50 miles - they are surely mistaken. From the trailhead to the lower falls, the distance is approximately 1.57 miles. This took my wife and I about 45 minutes. Once you reach the lower falls, you can continue on a much less obvious trail to the upper falls. This is another 0.58 miles making the entire hike around 4.50 miles roundtrip. Total time for us was around 2.5 hours but if you take some time to go in the water or hang out you’ll easily need 3+ hours for this one. Overall, 5 stars though. Great falls and a fun hike through some beautiful woods and along the shores of Lake Superior. I’d highly recommend.

One of our favorite falls and hikes! Fairly level path until the very top along the river but one of the most interesting hikes along the way. The mile back skirts along the rock bluff edge over Superior to the bottom falls immediately dumping into the lake. A small beach access and open area allows you to linger as long as you like before hiking up to the middle and upper falls. Downed trees to climb over, interesting roots to traverse and really fun natural elements including a spring fed little stream flowing directing through the root system of an old cedar! It's a road challenge(nothing worse than many of the access roads) getting to the trail head but worth it. Dont miss this gem!

We have a summer home in Marquette. Over the years we have expanded our trips to the UP to include camping and waterfall visits. This was one of our first camping trips. Such a beautiful area. A bit hard to find as our GPS took us down a dirt road at one point but but even that was OK in the long run as we drove along the side of a larger cliff that was also beautiful. This trip pointed out that we need to do a much better job at packing. Didn't have an axe so finding fire wood was a bit harder then it should have been. Would love to come back one year

Easy to moderate walk; most of it along the rocky shoreline. A little less than 3 miles round trip. The lower falls are more like dramatic rapids. Walk another quarter mile up from these lower falls to second falls. Beautiful, soul-satisfying hike. (When you are driving in on Smith Fisheries Rd., you will pass the parking area for Bare Bluff. This hike affords arguably the best view on the Keweenaw. For an easy/moderate hike, go LEFT - ip into the woods - at the sign where the trail begins the loop and then go back down the same way. Breathtakingly gorgeous views...
