This place is amazing, easily the best cave I’ve been in outside Carlsbad.
This is a guided tour and includes quite a lot of stairs and some low ceilings. Everyone in our group was fine but I did see the rangers inform a family of small children that the full cave would be too much for them, and advised the half tour.
The cave temperature was 44F (6C) which was colder than many caves I’ve visited. I was ok with shorts and a sweatshirt but I did feel cold.
Upon exiting the cave there are two options to return to the visitors center. We took the longer (0.7mi) one which involved a fair amount of climbing up. The view of the surrounding area was nice but I’d skip it next time and take the direct (0.3mi) route.
We stayed at Cave Creek campground the night before which was wonderful and almost completely empty (Tuesday night). I would recommend doing that. There was road construction on the way to the cave which apparently caused some to almost miss their appointment.
If you like caves I’d definitely...

The road has many twist and turns as you ascend the mountain. We did advance reservations for the Discovery Tour, which is a 90-minute tour that takes you through almost 1 mile of the cave.
The cave is cold and wet, so wear pants and shoes with traction and bring a sweatshirt or jacket. The tour requires some ducking and avoiding of obstructions which you aren't supposed to touch. There is a fair amount of stair climbing.
We also took a hike on the No Name Trail, which is approximately 1.3 miles and covers an elevation change of 290 feet. Depending on where you start the trail, you could end up going up a steep climb or going down a steep descent.
My kids did the Jr. Ranger Program and earned a Oregon Caves Jr. Ranger badge.
We enjoyed our time here. During our visit the cafe was closed for renovations, so bring...
Read moreAmazing for outdoor or geology people! Caves are awesome! Tour guide Matt was amazing! Fair warning... moderate to difficult conditions inside. Lots of carved stairs with no support, rocky outcrops, getting low and "cave walking " 45 inch duck and walk. If you're up to the experience, it's a once in a lifetime! Marble caves, evidence of prehistoric life, stalagmites, and stalagmites and columns and curtin formations. The general outside experience is nice as well. Great for a day out. Not ADA accessible yet. Trailhead for short or day hikes at upper parking area. Bring all supplies needed, food, water, and fuel. Nothing really available there. I will highly recommend this place and visit again. P.s. helluva 20 mile drive, except it to take 1 hour,...
