Friendly staff/volunteers, knowledgeable yet humble. Came for my birthday on a date with my husband. We happened to be there when minimal other visitors were there, which I prefer. It was a beautiful, cold, clear sky autumn day, so almost all the animals were out and active! I’m so thankful to all the people who care for these magnificent creatures who for various reasons are unable to be in the wild (injuries often from humans or unnaturally domesticated by humans). Great place for kids to visit and learn! Mostly it’s a hands off place, but there are a few stations you can engage with specific animals! The signs are clear on which is which. December looks like it’s going to be a fun time to come back! Example: there’s going to be an event (2023) with food trucks, alcohol vendors, yet kid friendly, holiday decorations and lights! I can’t wait!
During my visit (2023) there was a bear, 3 wolf-dog hybrids, llamas and alpacas, porcupine, badger, golden eagle, bald eagle, wallabies, owls, falcons, hawks, cute little goats that you can feed, and much more!
I bought myself a beautiful handmade necklace at the cute little gift shop, where you check in/buy entry tickets. They had beautiful rocks, stuffed animals, handmade jewelry, etc. The gift shop is a great place for local artists who would like a place to sell their wares and contribute to the animal welfare!
I would love to see more signs with name plates, fun facts, ways to engage in providing care for wildlife in nature, signs suggesting items we can donate that would help provide care for animal needs at the sanctuary (like toilet paper rolls for animal enrichment activities), maybe QR codes to the alluded research topics on their current signs? But I understand those cost money :/ I much prefer the animal receives care.
P.S. Please note, this is not a place to bring your dogs. These are animals that have been traumatized in various ways and will often times be affected by dogs. With few exceptions. Medically needed dogs might be given a pass. Please check at the gift shop as they will know what their current...
Read moreI am SO glad that we sought out a visit to Wildlife Images! I love animals. I love visiting animals I wouldn't see in Sacramento (home). I always struggle with the thought of what the lives of those animals might be like and how they came to be at the zoo, "sanctuary", reserve, etc etc. The people at Wildlife Images are the good guys. These animals were rescued or injured and are being cared for and rehabilitated by the staff and, if they can't be released to the wild, they become ambassadors for their species to us so we can learn about how Humans impact animals. While there, I saw a bear, a fox, an otter, wolves, a squirrel, several birds of ALL sizes, a cougar, bobcats, and a badger (my first badger sighting!). They're building an additional structure which made me feel great because I now they're getting important funding to expand. We need more places like this to help our animal pals. More than that, if we learn from sanctuaries like this, perhaps we can prevent some of the things that land individual animals in a situation that pulls them from their natural habitats or compromises those habitats. . Some very important lessons can be learned in a single visit. I can't recommend this place enough for any age. Fantastic, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, kind, and friendly crew of folks. Please visit. Please donate....
Read moreI went here kind of on official business, bc an Acorn Woodpecker flew down in front of me whilst walking. He looked young and he couldn't fold his wing back into place. I know nothing abt raising woodpeckers but didn't want to leave him to predators or the heat without water. I called Wildlife Images to ask for advice and the girl I spoke to said I could bring him there, needless to say was a tremendous relief. I arrived and they took some info from me and someone came up to get him. So I was treated compassionately, so was my little friend. They gave me a case number so I can check on him for updates. It takes a couple of days for the info to get into the system and I'm due to do that today. I really hope he's stronger, he was getting a bit wobbly and I'm sure it bc he needs food, I tried some wild birdseed and meal worms but he didn't eat, I gave water, but idk if he drank anything. Anyway, I feel confident that Wildlife Images Rehab will give him his best chance. I've seen them b4 bringing a few small animals for children to learn from, at a clinic I worked at, I learned a lot myself. In conclusion.... This is an awesome place for animals, and very therapeutic for humans as well, I just love animals and the ppl that look after them when they can't. Go see for...
