Sandstone Bluff; you can spend maybe 15-30 minutes exploring the bluff.
Parking: There is plenty of room for cars along the gravel parking area, it would also accommodate a couple larger RV's of you are willing to head up the mile or two gravel drive up to it.
Accessibility: With it being visible from the road portions of it would be doable even with a walker or from a wheelchair. Though other parts of it you will want to be fully physically capable to access the upper parts. Take care when near the cliff edges.
The Site: There are picnic tables and bbq pits along the upper parking area if you want to have lunch while you are here. With a pit toilet even the kids will be able to manage staying around to see it if you want to take your time. The views from the bluff is amazing and worth getting many photos from. Take your time to...

From here, you can easily walk to a few different vantage points that'll provide some amazing views of the surrounding landscape. Perfect spot to stretch your legs and take some great photos. While there's only the one, there is a picnic bench located near here if you'd like to stop and eat. Great stopping point if you're...
Read moreSandstone bluffs is a beautiful spot to stop by while you are in El Malpais. The road that leads to it is just about a mile from the rangers station and after a 5 minute drive you will arrive at the bluffs with a nice 360 degree panoramic view of the area. On the north side is the expansive view of the lava field and to the northeast you can see Mt. Taylor. We also stopped by last winter while at El Malpais and it presented a different, snowy landscape. You can hike around the edge of the bluffs which is maybe a mile or so or just sit on the giant rocks and soak in the view. It's one of the best spots for sunset...
