Took the family on 5/25/14. The holiday rate (Memorial Day weekend) of $10.00 wasn't a complete deal breaker (at first). Due to drought conditions the lake has receded quite a bit. This isn't the fault of the park and I understand that those who run the park can't control the weather. What bothered me the most was the amount of trash that was on the current shore line. Some of it was new trash like old bait containers, plastic grocery bags, random flip-flops and forgotten toys. There was quite a bit of very old trash such as broken beer bottles and old "pull tab" type beer cans as well as some chunks of concrete with re-bar. To my understanding, this is a municipal park. Personally I feel that if I have to pay to enter; then the park and litter should be managed and maintained. The condition of the shoreline is the primary reason for my two star rating.
The rating would have been one star if it weren't for some minor amenities. There is a small playground for the kids. I didn't see any benches or seating for adults though. The grass, while not being finely manicured, was maintained reasonably well. There were several covered pic-nick areas (they are reserved and you have to call in advance to secure one). There is plenty of parking. We went on the holiday weekend and didn't have any problems getting a really good spot close to the water, playground and pic-nick areas.
The following is not a complaint but it is something I feel is worth mentioning. Due to the aforementioned receding shoreline the exposed beach can feel rather muddy. If you don't like the feeling of sandy clay or mud between your toes then you will definitely want to stay away. My family and I took a walk along the shoreline. I started with a pair of flip-flops on but had to remove them because the muddy texture (I think it is a mixture of sand and clay) kept trying to suck my flip-flops off my feet.
To summarize, if you are accustomed to the pristine white sand Gulf beaches then you will probably want to stay away Meadowmere Park beach. If you just want to get out and let the kids get wet and dirty and this type of stuff doesn't bother you then you will probably have an inexpensive...
Read moreI came to Meadowmere Park to go kayaking with a friend of mine today. I had a wonderful time on the lake. It was a beautiful morning. But the service at the gate house was beyond horrible. I drove up to the window. No one came. When I finally found the lady to speak with she started chewing me out because I did not know where to go to get my kayak. Honest question. No one came to window. All she had to say was. You come to me and leave it at that. Instead she started in on "How old are you?" "Did you go to college?" "You lack common sense." I told her I came to window and she just didn't believe me. Then my friend drove up. I did not know this until he told me but she had been on the phone reserving his kayak with him the day before and she put the phone down without putting it on hold. While he was waiting to reserve his kayak she was cussing about "Dumb customers." When she got back on the phone with my friend she was embarrassed because she realized he heard all of what she said and apologized to him. Today when he reminded her who he was you could tell she was embarrassed again because she had again made a bad reputation of herself again by chewing me out in front of him. All I can say at this point is that my experience would have been a lot better if the little old lady that works at this park would have apologized to me. I don't lack common sense. When you come up to a gate house and no one comes to the window after a minute of being there you wonder where you have to go to...
Read moreMy family and I had a great time. I wish the sandy beach area was larger and could accommodate more people. We had to set up on the grass and every time we went down to the water, we had to climb down a pretty steep, rocky shelf. Some of their junior attendants were not helpful when we had an issue and had to continually ask for help until the manager arrived, which, I suppose is rather common these COVID days but still a hassle nonetheless. I did subtract one star for these issues but only one star because it was resolved favorably. Their policy/procedures on when the park is at max capacity should be revamped as none of the attendants were taking into account all of the people who left. We do love the park and myself and my family...
