This place is a decent, if a bit of a mixed bag. It's generally well maintained, which is definitely appreciated. The bathrooms are fairly clean, the beach gets raked regularly, there's ample safety equipment, and the landscaping team generally does their job well. In addition, there is a fairly competent play area for children. However, the bodies of water making up the swimming areas are less than sanitary. Being an old gravel pit and having no connection to any water circulation (spring, stream, river, etc.) The swimming conditions are questionable at best. You will no doubt see pond scum and the occasional bit of trash in the water. Definitely shower after you finish visiting. Outside that, it's a fair place to go for a walk, take the kids for an afternoon, or even a small bit of catch and...

Motz Park is a hidden gem in St John's. I live only a few miles a way and bring my dogs here for a walk at least 3 times a week. The park/lake on the west side of the road allows dogs and is a 2 mile walk around the lake. I don't believe dogs are allowed on the east side lakes. My dogs love being able to cool off in the lake on a hot day and I don't have to worry about bringing drinking water for them. It's also great for fishing and paddling. Anytime I come it's never overly crowded either. Many people walk their dogs without leashes here though which I do not recommend, you never know how other dogs with react to one another. I just love this...

I went to the beach across the road from the park. The beach has biffys and they were very clean. It is a long beach with nice coarse sand. No shade really, but nice. You also have to walk a ways if it is busy as there is parking but often times it is too full. There was a part to launch your kayak/canoe by sliding it down a wooden draw toward the water as the parking is up above the lake. Next time I'll bring my kayak or just explore the park itself across the road. I didn't go last time because there was a grad party going on and parking was full. Nice beach though and unlike other county beaches this one doesn't have a cover charge for...

There's definitely been some upgrades. They keep it clean of trash, mowed, trails are nice.. The Parking lots are crowded in the Summer, not enough space. Alot of people walking their dogs without leashes, I had to pick my dog up, to prevent an encounter. (not easy). I've always had my dog on a leash, and I welcome meeting dogs and people. My dog is young 4 months, and it's a great place to introduce social encounters slowly...It's Beautifully Serene in winter and early Spring, like now...Check it out! I Highly Recommend!

Nice beach in the middle of country fields! Nice size, not too big or too small, so it's manageable for families with small children. Water is clear and beach was clean. Grassy areas had lots of goose poop. Bathroom facilities available on the side we went to as well as drinking fountains, picnic tables, pavilion and feet washing stations. There is a paved path all the way down to the water edge so handicap accessible too. Great place to set up for a day and enjoy some beach time!
