We were so excited to Camp @ the Non-Electric Campground and we reserved our favorite spot @ # 163 weeks in advance.
About 2 hours after we arrived @ our site last night, an entire group of people arrived at the spot to the left of ours and more of them just kept coming & coming until it looked as though the City of Indianapolis was camping right next to our nice quiet spot.
About an hour after all of those people arrived, they began going into the woods with headlamps on & they cut down several trees with some type of VERY loud saws. This went on for about 2 hours & was so loud and disturbing that we called the 24 hour DNR telephone number for help.
We took videos & photos & the DNR lady I spoke to on the phone could hear their saws and them cutting the trees while we were on the phone.
We were told that Security would be stopping by but they never did bother to drive by or follow up with us or visit the other campers to ask them to stop.
We work very hard and we go camping to get away from the city and away from people that do not comprehend respect for others or respect for nature or State Parks.
We left @ 11 p.m. and our entire trip was ruined. This experience has completely RUINED any future visits to Lieber State Park or anything related to it.
It is shameful that DNR did not follow up or even take our report seriously and they nothing whatsoever was done. Those people should have been asked to leave or turn off their saws and their generators and lights but instead, we had to sacrifice our time, our wasted money and our sanity!!!!!
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!! I want my money back!!!! (The picture below shows their little city all lit up and ruining the experience for the other campers and my videos will not...
Read moreI guess we are in the minority here but we won't be coming back. We camp (camper) every other weekend all around Indiana and so far this has been the worst, overall, state park experience.
The campground is nice to look at, a lot of wooded sites, seems peaceful. It's not. Tons of very loud, very drunk people who left a lot of trash in and around sites. We woke up on morning one to puke from who knows which person all around the area our site was at, dogs were left tied up alone ALL WEEKEND at some sites and they barked endlessly, luckily our dogs don't engage in this, people were yelling and arguing all around us- they weren't all together it was just a lot of people who apparently need to scream, cuss and be dramatic to camp. Primitive area was full sun, a lot happening there that wasn't inviting. The bathrooms weren't bad.
The beach was absolutely packed as was the roped off area you were supposed to swim in. Again, so much noise, about a dozen different speakers blasting different types of music, kids not being watched and screaming nonstop. People (drivers and pedestrians) not paying attention in the beach parking lot and causing issues. Not worth trying to stay.
The park is fairly bikeable. The nature center needs a face-lift. The camp store is pretty well stocked. Not a lot of hiking. The COs had people pulled over a lot. Otherwise we saw one employee beyond the gate employee.
Overall it felt chaotic and drama filled. Not a relaxing weekend trip. If you want to people watch in the worst kind of way,...
Read moreThe recreation area itself is beautiful with gorgeous nature scenery. The three total ‘trails’ leave much to be desired. All at a mile (or under) and while perfect for littles, gives no great challenge for experienced hikers. Pool is the crowning jewel. Lifeguards were professional but friendly. Concessions weren’t the most expensive I’ve ever experienced. SRA is ten minutes from Cataract Falls (beautiful but small) and thirty from McCormick’s Creek.
Campsites are paved and reminiscent of McCormick’s Creeks campground (pre-2023 tornado, of course). Sites 79 and 80 were good buddy sites; close to comfort station. Primitive loop (aptly named Sunny Acres) offered little shade from my exploration walk perspective.
Nature Center is quaint. Was not open until the weekend and offered no programs. Wildlife Observation Area was a run down back deck with poorly maintained plexi-glass ‘windows’ for viewing. Plants were overgrown and I’m not even sure the feeders had bird...
