📍Great Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and Discovery Center The best way to have fun FOR FREE on the NH Seacoast! Walk along ~1 mile of trails and boardwalks through woods, wetlands and marshes in the Great Bay. Play and learn in the Discocery Center with immersive play areas, games, crafts and touch tank. Workout the remaining wiggles in the outdoor playground before heading home! LAST CHANCE! The Discovery Center closed for the 2025 season on 10/25! The outdoor attractions remain open year round. Discovery Center: Open 10-4 Tuesday- Saturday, seasonally #603kids #nhfamily #newhampshirelife #GreatBayNERR #seacoastnh

Great Bay Discovefy Center 📍89 Depot Rd, Greenland, NH 03840 *indoor space is closed for the season* Nature meets learning at the Great Bay Discovery Center in Greenland, NH! 🌿🌊 This free, family-friendly spot is full of hands-on exhibits, trails, boardwalks, and salt marsh views. We learned all about estuaries—where fresh and salt water meet—and got to explore one up close! 🐟🦀 A perfect mix of outdoor fun and education, and a hidden gem for summer adventures. 💙 #GreatBayDiscoveryCenter #NHWithKids #NaturePlay #estuary

This is an awesome place to explore! I visited in December & the research center was technically closed for the season. I went there to hike & geocache and soon learned of a geocaching challenge for which I needed a “passport” from the center. I called the center, not knowing if anyone would answer because it was the off season. A girl answered, explained what I needed, & came out to give me said passport because she was actually inside the building! She was very kind & helpful and made my day since I was able to start the challenge I had learned about. The trails are awesome; one of them is labeled Woodland Walk & features an impressive Native American hut & site built by Boy Scouts. At the end of this trail I came across a “wishing tree” with provided supplies to add your wish, I thought it was a really cute idea for the holidays! I also thoroughly enjoyed the boardwalk near the marsh, overall a great place to hike & to learn!

This is a wonderfully educational, beautiful, green location. I highly recommend bringing your kids, there is so much for them to do and learn about!

There's a touch tank inside with a flounder, a horseshoe crab, and you'll, many fish, and other gastropods. There are lots of games such as Plinko and a Candyland style game, a 30-foot barge for them to play on, and interactive learning walls.

The facility itself is green and so many ways. It has a solar roof, permeable parking lots and walkways, plants built as buffer zones for storm water runoff, geothermal heating, rainwater collectors, and more. Plus there's a hiking trail that leads down to the estuary which I haven't checked out yet but plan on kayaking as soon as I finish...

A hidden treasure! We saw the sign from 33 as we were on our way to Portsmouth and decided to stop. We thought it might be a quick little visit but there was actually a lot to do!

The discovery center has a visitor's center style building with small hands-on exhibits for kids to explore. There's lots of information about the animals they can see on their walk around the trails outside. Plenty to keep the kids busy here!

Outside you can walk the trails around the property. Part is wooded, part is out through the bay. Very easy to walk with kids.

If you're looking for a fun morning activity with the...
