We have stayed at most of the cabins in Arkansas state parks, and this was our least favorite. The positives are the nature, the friendly staff, and the sunsets. The negatives are there wasn't much to do in the park when we were there- the one trail was closed and the playground was closed, not the right time of year for the pool, so can't comment on that. We had fun just doing our own things, but there wasn't much to the park. The cabins are just ok. Our smoke alarm went off every time we used the oven b/c the ventilation isn't good, the kitchen needs more supplies for cooking, the couch is old/run down and is uncomfortable to sit on and the pull-out bed was very uncomfortable and the mattress looked absolutely disgusting. The carpet is also absolutely disgusting- lots of big stains, sticky in some places. Our feet were black walking around in the cabin. Just really gross. This is not the fault of the staff. They were all very nice and friendly. It seems like this park has no money- half of the park is closed permanently (campgrounds, wash rooms, permanently closed and dilapidated), and some things needs to be replaced in the cabins- like the couch and carpet. We enjoyed our stay, because we had fun doing our own thing, we love nature, loved the sunsets. We won't be visiting this park again though. There are much...
Read moreMe and my family have been going every year for the past couple of years and its usually been okay. But this time it just wasn't so good. There was no nature trail due to them fixing it up, and that's fine but they should have told us when we booked. The peddle boat still didn't work and the motor boats couldn't be used due to the light rain that morning and no maintenance, on a Saturday, to get the water out. The museum was terrible this time. The water and tank for the turtle, crawdad and alligator was disgusting and not even enough water in the turtle tank. They moved so much stuff around it looked tacky where the snakes and the big empty tank was and the room with the fossils and stuff was closed off with the door closed. The light in one of the rooms in the cabin did not work, spoke to the person at the front desk about it and getting a roll of toilet tissue and they were very rude and didn't even fix the light. The pool was okay a little dirty but not to bad, the lifeguards were friendly and helpful. The lockers do need to be cleaned out but I love the lockers. The park was okay but one of the swing sets needs to be bolted back together better it...
Read moreHad a great trip to this state park March 2022. I had seen some negative reviews that worried me but we loved our stay. Talked to a park ranger that told us they had done a lot over the last three years to get this park back to a great place and I agree. Stayed at site F123 on the water. 30a with full hookups. Water is oddly placed at street on opposite side but a longer water hose will do the trick. Well kept Bathhouse across the street from site and a brand new one just down the lane. Two stores onsite. Boat pier just a few sites down you can fish from. Town with everything you need 15 min away. City 40 min away with casinos. Beautiful place to stay. Well maintained, several employees constantly working bathrooms, picking up limbs, trash, working stores, etc. Only one trail and it's Foot traffic only, no bikes unfortunately. FYI, Cell service at site was fine, ATT was better than our Verizon phones but they both worked good for voice and data. Further you got from the water the service got worse, once you got to the registration office Verizon was basically no service for a few miles...
