It was a lovely Sunday and although there wasn't a lot of parking available because so many came to enjoy the same beauty, it was peaceful, quiet, very clean, and this leashed dog-friendly park covers a widespread area. We sat on the dock watching the turtles swimming and the catfish leaping for insects as a couple brothers quietly fished and conversed with us.
The park is level and the trails are paved, wide, shady, and equally accommodating for bicyclers and walking groups. If you happen to be one who enjoys watching aircraft, this park is situated across the highway Greenville-Pitt County Airport's prevailing runway most of the year, 020°🤷🏼♀️.
Next time we'll rent one of the available kayaks or paddle-boats and bring a picnic basket. I didn't see a snack bar. The museum was closed. This is like a park for city folks 😁, which isn't my preference, but it's great for less active people and children. There's also at least one fully fenced-in playground for kids and another unfenced area with sand footing and smooth sculptures that children can climb on. The parking lot is gravel. Neither of us used any restroom there. We arrived after 2 in the afternoon. I suggest the need for more park benches for those who must sit due to disabilities. Once we return I may edit this...
Read moreSo my family has only participated in the Monday "Open Play" in the front play area from 10-12. Today was my first time there in about 2 years due to adding a new baby to the mix. My 1.5 year old LOVED it. There were probably about 15-20 kids there at the peak, but everyone played extremely well together. Great mix of kids/families!! It is a more nature oriented "playground". There is a fishing boat for the kids to play in. There are outdoor musical instruments like chimes and bells to play. There is a big hill for kids to climb and a tunnel that you can crawl through. There is an area with sheets that allows the kids to build a fort in their own configuration. There are blue foam blocks that you can build different shapes and things. Sometimes the staff will bring out other activities too! I would absolutely recommend attending! The sign says it is designed for 5-12 years old I believe but the younger kids definitely had more than enough to keep...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite places to venture to throughout the year. The trails are easy to navigate and the park is clean. There’s plenty of fishing spots, a playground area, a volleyball area, a large covered picnic area, a massive sandpit with neat animal statues for kids to play on. There’s also a pier and paddle boats that you can rent during the summer. This is a great place to bring your kids, dogs or just to hike/walk your self. There are a few different trails that loop back to the main one so you can choose how far you’d like to travel. I’ve only been in the building itself on one occasion, during a Halloween event, but it was clean and had some educational exhibits. Overall, I recommend River Park North if you’re looking to get out of the house and enjoy nature for a...
