DO NOT BOOK AN EVENT WITH HANNAH.
The event staff at Folino Winery ruined my family dinner celebrating my wedding. To begin, the event planner Hannah mentioned several times that I was required to bring name cards for the table and said I could either mail them or drop them off on the Thursday or Friday prior to my event. I took time to create name cards, and then drove 45 minutes to drop off the name cards two days prior to my event on the day she specified I should. When I got there and tried to give them to her, she gave me a confused smile and said she didn't need name cards and that Folino took care of them. Perplexed, as I had driven way out of my way to do what she asked, I apologized to my family who drove me up, and we left without giving the name cards. On the contrary, she again acted very confused when she took the table runner, but did not take the name cards, even tho - again - she has said we could drop them off the day or two before. As anyone knows, planning a wedding or family function is stressful, so the fact that I spent ample time trying to do as she asked only to be met with a confused look was irritating. In addition when we chatted on the phone prior, she asked what the "family dinner" was for and I explained it was celebrating my wedding with my elderly grandparents after getting married in our local church.
On the day of the event, we arrive and there is no one there to greet us, and there are no place cards on the table. When we finally track Hannah down she - again - has a confused look on her face, now saying that we were supposed to bring then name cards and that - yes, she didn't NEED them on THURSDAY, she NEEDED them on SATURDAY. Which, truly how annoying and nonsensical. She then says it was in my contract to provide them, which need I remind, I drove up with them in hand. At this point I am extremely annoyed by her.
Then she brings her event manager, a woman with black hair. That woman doubles down instead of being gracious, and says it is essentially my fault and it is in my contract and says Hannah said that she told me (lie) and that she also didnt know it was a wedding (lie). Hannah is standing there essentially trying to not get in trouble at her job at the expense of my $3k WEDDING dinner. If they would have been honest, gracious, or even just professional, that would have been one thing, but Hannah lying and her manager doubling down was infuriating.
In addition to all this, they said they "couldn't hold personal items because what it they were robbed" as the reason they didn't take PEICES OF PAPER for name tags, while simultaneously agreeing to hold our table runner??
As for food and beverage: the bar was supposed to be set up at 5. At 515 the bartenders are basically arriving and bringing in bottles, and dumping a huge bucket of sangria into a pitcher that we paid $240 for. Yes, totally worth it for $240 for wine dumped from a bucket in front of my guests. Not to mention they were late, making everyone wait.
Pasta was served cold. Overall the whole experience was awful with the exception of the beautiful building and landscaping outside, and the opportunity to see my family and my new husband.
Will never be returning and suggest that anyone who is considering hosting with Folino strongly consider if your money is best spent on a venue who does not care about details, lies to guests' faces, does not care about hospitality or good service, and also has a general idiot as an event manager with extremely strong opinions on how to...
Read moreRUDE and HORRIBLE SERVICE. It takes a lot for me to write a poor review, this may actually be my first poor one and its for many valid reasons. We dealt with several staff members. Some were sweet but most were just rude and lacked common customer service. We wanted to purchase bottles of wine and were rudely told “go pay first then come back.” We were standing at the register, and didn’t understand why she couldn’t ring us up. Then we asked where we could sit. She pointed to outside because we didn’t have reservations. Okay but it was raining and there were several empty tables inside. She then looked at us like why are you still standing here. Well we need wine glasses and for you to open the wine bottle for us. We shouldn’t have to ask but common sense isn’t common. There were 5 adults standing in front of her, and she hands us 2 glasses. Im thinking this cant be real. We asked for 3 more and she seemed bothered by it. Then one of us ordered the sangria special from a different lady. The glass was only filled half way while the lady next to us ordered the same and got a full glass. We paid the same price. There was no consistency among employee preparation. We asked another employee to fill the glass since the lady that we were dealing with didnt seem like she wanted to be bothered either. We then ordered a pizza from the restaurant side. When they brought it to us they brought no plates or napkins. Common sense and common hospitality was almost impossible here. So we got up to find some. We left as soon as we finished eating; we couldn’t wait to leave. On our way out we saw a couple walk in and ask for a table. A different employee than the ones we dealt with told them “sorry we are full.” He asked “even outside?”, she replies “yes” in a rude annoyed tone. There were at least 8 empty tables outside with no reservation signs. We knew because we attempted to sit there. The couple could also see it was empty and looked confused. We took it upon ourselves to explain that they could still order food and sit in the entrance area like we did. Why would you not explain to your customers what options they have for staying vs watching them walk out?! This was one of the most annoying experiences. Im a very easy going person but this was just unbelievably terrible. Not a single thing was normal, no hospitality at all. We left baffled at how one place could be this terrible to their customers. Its a beautiful place but I would never come back after this. Oh theres also a 20% service charge, thats different than the tip. A lady explained its how they pay their staff. Also didnt make sense, typically one pays their employees from their sale profits. That was the least of all the deficiencies but know before you go…or better yet, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else where you can be treated like you’re a...
Read moreFolino has been on my radar for a while, and I finally got to try it for my Birthday yesterday. We made the reservation through the website link on Facebook. We ordered an assortment of appetizers and the fall cheese board with some desserts to take home. They were very busy as it was their fall festival event, so I want to factor this into my rating as well.
Cocktails were excellent, and each made with some of the house wines. I had the sangria of the month which was a BlackBerry ginger sangria; very good. My favorite was the apple pie mojito. My husband ordered 2 cocktails made with bourbon, which were both very good.
Food I would give a 4 out of 5. .last everything we had was excellent, but the dates were missing from our board which was 34 dollars, and could have included more on the spread for the price. I would have priced what we received at no mode than 22 dollars. Not a lot of cheese or cured meats. The marinated mushrooms were very good, and so was the pumpkin ricotta. Prosciutto wrapped shrimp with apple butter were alright- shrimp were very tender, and apple butter was very good, but the pieces of prosciutto wrapped around were very small.
The grape fonduta was one of our favorites for appetizers- very delicious. We also ordered the polenta appetizer with mushroom ragu-also good along with crostini that had shaved beef, mushroom, and herbed goat cheese. we did not noticed the herbed goat cheese was missing at first, as we were very hungry, and the crostini were still very good without it. The manager did send us some to take home- but I have to give the food a solid 4 out of 5 for more than one missing item as the board did not include the dates mentioned on the menu.
We did specify the reservation was celebrating a birthday- they did not acknowledge this mostly likely bc it was overlooked with the busy-ness of the fall festival event, but I do wonder what they ordinarily do for birthday reservations. Our server was unaware, and was likely not told by the hostess.
It was very lovely and bright inside, but I'm not a huge fan of modern farmhouse aesthetic. The bottle shop was great, and we bought some wines to take home. I have not tried them all yet, but the bubbly we bought is fantastic.
Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here, and I would go again on a day where they dont simultaneously have an event occurring. Definitely...
