This is a great place to take the family. We camped at campground #2. It is the smaller of the two and most sites are right on the water. We were in the inner part of the loop but still had a good view even though we weren't on the water. The bath house was behind us. The site was spacious. The bathhouse was clean and had hot water! One of the boat ramps is in this area (used by the campers) so there was a good bit of traffic from vehicles and golf carts.
We brought our kayaks and it was easy to get them in at out near the boat ramp. We paddled all along the state park. There are a couple of little coves that were perfect for paddling and fishing. We even paddled right up to a little beach area within the park where 2 playgrounds also exist. We had a picnic there and played for awhile.
It was so cool because an ice cream boat came through and we were able to get a sweet treat for everyone. What an experience! The lady running it even accepted venmo payments.
The park has a lot of waterfront areas outside of the camping areas and picnic tables are plentiful. We saw a lot of people fishing off the banks and playing in the water.
The main office has DNR fishing equipment to BORROW. We didn't need that but we thought it was awesome that they offer it.
As kayakers we love that there are nearby areas to paddle to that our kids can get out and play without having to go too far. The main parts of the lake are too choppy with all the boats sometimes. So we stayed along the banks and it was fine. There were plenty of others kayaking too.
There is supposedly wifi here but I think we were too far from the main office to be able to use it.
As far as cellular service... I barely had 1-2 bars with Verizon. So if you have them, don't bank on being able to do much with your phone. I did great from others that AT&T is decent here though. Couldn't verify that for...
Read moreWe had an amazing day at Lake Greenwood State Park! Very nice park with lots of beautiful lake front views and plenty of great swimming areas. The entire park is basically on the lakes edge and they allow swimming almost everywhere, and it is clearly marked where you can't! The water is clear and clean, there are only a few actual "beach" areas but the rest of the park is mowed and offers a ton of grass landings so it's easy to throw a blanket out and picnic, swim and have a great time. The park does have several large pavilion type picnic areas for large groups, picnic tables everywhere along the shore line and plenty of space so it doesn't get too crowded in one area. There was only one nature trail that we could find though it wasn't clearly marked where to find it on the maps.. camping area 1 is where it begins, if your interested. It's about 4 miles of trail and walks along the lake front and through the forest area, worth it if you like to hike. It's a very easy trail, no steep climbs at all. They offer 2 camping areas, mostly rv spots from what I could see, with a handful of primitive spots scattered throughout. It does cost to get in, but it was only a few dollars and the kids were free. The playground was very clean as we're the restroom, which is always a plus in my book! The only bad thing was the amount of trash that was left laying around, a good number of tables we went to sit at had piles of empty bottles and piles of burnt charcoal that had been just spilled in grass areas. I wish people weren't so damn inconsiderate! Overall the park was very nice, well maintained and we are definitely going to plan a camping...
Read moreVery nice state park with beautiful campsites, many on the water. Nice is that many campsites are paved for a clean and pkeasant experience. Note to check on that if you wabt to tent camp. The family next to us needed to buy a different tent that would stand up without stakes in the ground. If you tracel with a longer rig note that some sites slope quite a bit. In addition to hydraic leveling i had to drive on to som pieces of lumber i carry for those sites. Other than that there is a nice shady tree cover which was highly appreciated in the summer heat. The lake is huge and if you have a canoe, boat or any other water toys you stay will ve even more fun. Overall a great experience in a well run well maintained campground. We were thankful that the rangers and probably a bunch of volunteers took the effort to clear and reopen the front loop of the hiking trail. They went out of their way to mark detours around fallen trees with plenty of blazes so navigating the beautiful shoreling hike was a breeze. (This is in June 2025, for reference) The park was completely booked on the weekend. Staff was very accomodating when we asked to swap sites upon arrival due to issues fitting our rig onto a tight space. There were very few mosquitos even in mid June. So great overall...
