I regularly visit this lake for peace and quiet during my lunch break, and like to come fishing too, but only on certain days. The area is generally well kept, but unfortunately this place has gained enough popularity to also attract lazy and careless "fishermen" who leave their trash along the banks like hooks that can easily penetrate shoes and mud boots (I wear my steel toe work boots here), alcohol containers, food and bait containers, you name it. There is also an issue with respect towards people fishing. There are regularly boaters who romp on it going to different spots around the lake, causing large wakes for both fellow boaters and bank fishers to deal with. I've also had many occasions where I chose a very secluded spot to fish, only to have someone else set up shop only a matter of yards away like there isn't already someone there. That's certainly not breaking any laws or anything, but it is extremely poor etiquette. Also, mind your surroundings while here in the evening or until close. I've found plenty of what I'm going to generalize as drug related items around the park, including needles that are likely used. To wrap up, I feel the game wardens/parks dept. employees could step up their game on helping keep the park clear of the rotten tomatoes trying to ruin the whole bushel. Aside from the crowds you'll encounter on Fri-Sun, this is generally a nice park to walk or run around, fish at, boat or canoe on the lake, or...
Read moreChalco Hills in Omaha is a fantastic spot to spend quality time with family and friends. The scenic beauty of this place, combined with its vast array of activities, makes it perfect for a weekend outing. The trails are well-maintained and ideal for walking, and if you prefer biking, rentals are available on-site, making it even more convenient. The lake offers opportunities for kayaking and fishing, while the open fields are great for soccer games and kite flying.
One of the highlights is the picturesque setting, making it a go-to place for photoshoots, especially during fall and spring when nature's beauty is at its peak. For families with young children, the playgrounds are excellent, providing a safe and fun environment for infants and toddlers.
Some of the best moments here include hiking with kids, discovering wild mulberries, and enjoying a potluck with friends in the park's picnic areas. Chalco Hills is truly a gem in Omaha for outdoor enthusiasts and those seeking a peaceful...
Read moreBeautiful loop around a lake (I believe roughly 6-5-7.0 miles if you don’t take any cut throughs). I ran around 8 am on a weekday. Surprisingly it was somewhat busy with walkers and bikers and runners. The trail is beautiful and a mix of forest and lake as well as some surprisingly tough inclines! I noticed there were several different parking lots and at least one area to put boats in.
There were plenty of restrooms along the trail which I thought was helpful too. The trails were clean as well besides a few spots of feces.
My only complaint is the complete arrogance of a few cyclists, particularly of the older generation. They had zero regard for others and expected the pathway to be completely available for them despite being wide enough to accommodate opposite...
