Over 450 acres here! This is listed on the DNR website as a nature preserve. This place is larger and cleaner and better maintained than rival state or local parks. Having never before been here, I was really impressed with my findings. Huge parking area. Pit toilet, drinking water available, 23 acre lake and a smaller pond too. Trails that are well groomed. Your vehicle will get dirty from the gravel road access point. But the destination is well worth it. They also offer a picnic shelter. 2 markers at this place. One detailing the background of the place. The other a marker detailing the rich history of Iowa and how this area helped people from the 1800s who headed west.    Read moreI recently chose this trail for a walk, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. The path is predominantly grassy, with some dirt patches in the shaded areas under the trees. This hike is definitely not for the faint-hearted, as there are a few hills that are steep. However, the breathtaking views make every step worthwhile.

There is a pond but I have never fished it. I see people fishing on shore and in boats. Trolling motor only. There are nice shelter houses at both entrances for a fun family gathering.
