This is an absolute gem. Upwards of 5 miles of trails, well maintained, through diverse habitat— bottomland walnut timber, upland prairie and oak savannah, fringe timber, and of course the seven days of the week ponds.
The Sunday pond is farthest, but probably my favorite— with duck nesting boxes (not occupied currently it would seem) and a heron rookery! We counted five nestlings among three nests (two more might have been active as well). Three adults were perched or flying nearby. We tallied 45 species of birds on our morning walk.
Really a sublime place. The views of the wind sweeping through the prairie grasses here remind us of how beautiful our native landscape must...
